Sunday, Dec. 10, 1933

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped a short while; he got his license ordered this morn, by Eichenseer for 25¢. Very nice day. Papa & Berti took a drive out, advertising heifers, stoped [sic] at Austin McDermott, Abrose Doyle & few more places. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Waterloo, came here had supper, played cards tonite.

Wednesday, Sept. 20, 1933

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got a load of wheat; took it to Red Bud; got 78¢; then got a load here to feed. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s, fixed her dress, had lunch, brought pears & peaches along. Wm. Harbaugh’s have baby girl born last nite. Yvone Rapp was taken to Red Bud Hospital operated for appendix, from 11:15 to 12 o clock this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we all went to Red Bud, to the Drawing boxing & wrestling; quite a few names where called, Fred Reheis was, but he didn’t appear, that is the only one except Mrs. Frank McDermott from around here, that was called.

Hubert McDermott called up & told us about the dance at Martin Neff’s, so we went this evening had good time adm. 20¢. Schilling Moonlighters played; large crowd, & big floor. Rosalia & Bert, Lena Meng went down to see Ida Braun, she would be 15 in Nov. Egg man was here.

Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1933

Washington’s birthday, Frieda Buehler’s, Martha Boll’s birthdays. Freida called this morn, wanted to know if Aunt Mary was here, but they ain’t up here, she has a quilt in the frame, what she got from Mrs. Birkner. The paper is just full of stuff where one man tried to shoot the president elect, but missed him, on account of such a crowd, but he shot the mayor of Chicago, but, he is on the road to recover. Papa took Mr. Ed. Meng to Smithon this morn. Mamie came down awhile to get her hair curled. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here, then we all went up to the euchre except papa. Rosalia had 11 points & got pair pillow cases. Uncle Fred had 9, got a silver cake or bread plate. The beautiful quilt was won by Louisa Braun, the spread Dr. Isselhardt of Belleville, & Infant set, Harold Eichenseer & a pair pillow cases, for attendance prize by Mrs. Fred Riselmier of Red Bud, such a crowd from all over, Red Bud, Evansville, Paderborn, 44 tables, 34 euchre & 10 pinochle. Adm. 25¢. Huber & Jonny McDermott was also at the euchre. There where so many prizes, lot of 7! got a prize, 100 prizes; a cake with Washington as a prize, Paul Parker won it, & all other kind of prizes.

Friday, Jan. 13, 1933

Papa hauled 2 load of wood this morning. Henry brought a load of corn. Uncle Adam & Emil where doing business by H. M. Hill. Miss Magaret [sic – Margaret] McDermott called up & told us that Jac. Brand at Red Bud died & will be buried tomorrow morning at 9:30 to the Catholic Church & cemetery, we should tell Uncle Adam. We did all the cleaning today. Henry Meyer brought a load of corn, that papa bought from him, 26 bus. @ 17¢ $4.52.

Sunday, July 24, 1932

We went to Red Bud, but the Chev. didn’t work so we took the Whippet & pulled the Chev. home when we came back. Joe Mueth was here on business to talk to papa, about the telephone lines. Henry was here this morning, he came up to get some whey & came down here. Martin May & daughter Rau & Ed McDermott & girlfriend Beal [?] Friel of St. Louis where stop to say “Hello” they where on there way home from Hecker. Mr. Cox an egg man got 15 doz eggs from us today for 12½¢. Miss Josie Keller & Miss Isabel McKuen of St. Louis stopped & “Hello” on there way back, they came out to the pinic [sic] of St. Mark’s church at Round Prairie, had there chicken supper there. We all had lunch at Aunt Mary’s this afternoon. George Wagner & family came over a little this morn. & look at car.

Monday, Feb. 22, 1932

Washington’s birthday, also Frieda Buehler & Martha Boll. Papa, Rosalia & Jake Neff went out to Henry’s to kill a cow. Rosalia has to stay there while they take it to Waterloo to sell it, this afternoon. She & papa where there for dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up then they took Bertille along to Henry’s, they bought $5.05 & summer saussage [sic] $3.45 & beef $1.60. then they brought Bertille home again, had dinner here. Joe Mueth came over here a little while & looked at our sows. They should all be having pigs & the one of them did, but where all dead. McDermott of Waterloo, & family are now living with Noel & Stella Roscoe down on the farm, work is slack, he is working for Mobile & Ohio Railroad co. Henry brought Rosalia home this evening. Bertille took 9 doz. eggs. got 11¢ doz. at Eichenseers & got the papers. Henry & Leona didn’t sell much beef in Waterloo.

Thursday, April 9, 1931

Uncle Adam bought a horse yesterday.  Papa & Rosalia is stretching wire this morn.  Miss Kate McDermott was here to see Papa.  She came up with the bus & then went back on it again.  She also came to see Jac. Neff’s.  Leona called up & said, that her mom, called out & said that Mrs. Geodelle her grandma die last night, & will be buried Sat. afternoon.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon, they lawned there grass on their place, & planted out flowers.  It started to rain this evening.  Eggs are 15¢ today.  Wm. Harbaugh got his land, stock, & everything praised [appraised] like the Brauns did too.  Aunt Mary & Bertille were over an looked at Mrs. Rheinecker’s garden she gave me some flowers, Catsus [catcus].

Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1931

We washed today.  Anna Braun was here this morning.  This afternoon Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here.  Papa & Uncle Fred went down to see Anna Braun, & then afterwords went to Waterloo.  Uncle Fred bought Anna Braun’s house & buildings in Hecker today for $3,000.00.  A note as part pay.  Uncle Fred & Papa went over to see Elmer Kammler about the rent.  It is $10.00 every month.  Papa went down to see Jos. R. Braun this evening.  And ordered his license.  Jos. Watchel & Mr. Laut are each butchering 1 hog today.  Henry told us this morning that Rose Crook “nee” McDermott was buried this morning, she was in St. Clements Hospital in Red Bud, & was pretty bad sick, she had heart trouble.  They were just married about a year.  Ben Schilling bought Phillip Braun’s property, & Henry Braun sold 2 lots where his buildings are on to Clara Braun.  Everybody’s selling & buying now.  This evening Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker was here, we played 4 handed pinochle.  Steve and Bertille were partners & lost 5 games out of 6.

Today the Evangelicals have their church picnic.  Hubert & Ed McDermott were at our place this afternoon.  Then we all went up to the picnic.  We all at supper there.  We came home at 10:30.
