Beautiful weather, cut lawn yesterday. Pap hauling wood with truck. Berti [Bertille] cleaned front room, varnished floor. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up again this afternoon. We took them along to Waterloo, euchre tonite; at Memorial Hall, had big crowd; played 8 games & 10 points at head table. Pap won 7 got ovenware casserole, & Bert had 6, got water bucket. U. [Uncle] Fred 6 – got tablespoons. A. [Aunt] Mary only had 4, her name didn’t come out, only 4 prizes left for 4; played pinochle – 500. Domioes [sic] & euchre all 8 games blanket attendance prize; were mostly all strange to us. Mehrmann got 5 doz. eggs. 21¢. Band pratice [sic] at Geodelle’s tonite.

Cleaned room & hall finished upstairs, only washing to do. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon fixing his basement. Pap hauled 3 loads wood today with truck. Henry brought load corn. Sure hot today. Bersche brought our sewing machine all fixed $3.50 & also took Rose [Rosalia] to there place $18.50. all varnished. Mrs. Mehrmann got 5 doz. eggs. yesterday 22¢. Wheat in paper $1.02.

Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, he helped pap refixed the corn crib, had dinner & lunch here, chicken, brought then wash along Bert [Bertille] ironed it; cooked catsup & pear preserve. Henry Wittenauer cut hay. Mehrmann got eggs 7 doz. @ 22¢. going up now; also sugar is getting higher. A fellow here looked at the mule, but couldn’t use him right now. John came again looked at horse & mule, it was dark already.

Berniece brought the egg basket over, Mehrmann got 10 doz. eggs. @ 18¢. Cooking catsup, perserves [sic] made coffee cake. Canned 3 qts tomatoes & 3 peaches yesterday. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came cut lawn, puled [sic] 2 gals. peaches for her. Ruhl came measured land. Mrs. Martin Karban came this eve. wanted peaches, but we didn’t have any picked past then & to dark to pick.

Went out to Henrys filling silo, had 9 fellows for lunch, Schillings filled it. Leona got tooth pulled has large jaw. swollen for 3 days. Mr. & Mrs. Jake Orlet came down looked at peaches awhile this eve; want to take about 2 or 3 bus. when there ripe enough; still to green for canning yet. Mehrmann got 6 doz eggs.

Beautiful day, cool, but no rain, had an awful storm at New York last nite radio reports. Washed, ironed, patched, washed bottles, canned 1 qt. & pt. tomatoes. Pap went out to Henry’s . Stoeckel finished everything this morn., paid him for everything worked 86 hrs. @ 25¢ hr. $21.50; he painted, fixed roofs & chimneys & window frame filled in spaces that was needed etc; here & Henrys together. Public sale by Harrisonville this afternoon. Mehrmann got 10 doz. eggs. 17¢.

Bert [Bertille] baked cake, cooked catsup. Pap went to woods to look for sand. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, Bert went along to Chester to the wake of Mrs. John McDermott, who passed away yesterday afternoon at 2 ‘ o clock, at Jacksonville Ill, she had been there for 2 weeks, with a nervous break down, in a private place & nurse, while the nurse was just out, she hung herself with a strap; & died; 29 yrs old; they were married will be 2 mons. on 10 of next mo; tomorrow will be taken to her home at Raddle Ill, about 12 miles from Chester, & will be buried there Sat. morn; we met her 2 sisters & brother, being there at the funeral parlor, 2 girls were all school teachers. We were there from 3 to 5:30, people came in & out; John & Ed were there. Leo & Rose came this eve. & we ate watermelons, that A. [Aunt] Mary brought from Sparta, boy what a good melon, we ate it all 22 lb. Mrs. Mehrmann got the eggs. 10 doz. @ 17¢. A fellow here wanted to sell paint. We got 19¢ for our chicks, 77 lbs. – 3 doz. shipping charges 75¢ on coop. We got a new Chicago Mail Order catalog.

Nice day. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped, then went to get Lena & Wilma Birkner, threshing done at Buehler’s. Pap couldn’t go long to help Leo thresh, on account threshing here. Mrs. Mehrmann got the eggs last nite, 10 doz. @ 16¢, they have to go threshing at Skaer’s today. Hogs sure have a good price, $12.95 today. they were $13. this yr. already; everything going up. Rob. Merz & son of Waterloo painted Uncle Fred’s house & granary roof yesterday. Leona, Robert, Billy [Willis] came Bert [Bertille] went along up to Rose [Rosalia] this morn; had dinner, baked pies this morn. had threshers for lunch, got 258 bus. oats. Buehler’s threshing here, brought the lunch up this afternoon, pap had lunch with them.

Boy is it hot. Hauled 16 bus. 35 lbs. wheat to Waterloo, last of the old wheat now, got $1.16 bu; got crushing done by Horn’s; Hung the onions up in garage. Mehrmann got 8 eggs.

Ruma convent has big day. Sisters renew there vows & get the habit some of them. Rosalia Kern is one Chris Kern’s daughter of Red Bud. Bert [Bertille] went to Wagners awhile. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. Mehrmann got 9 doz. eggs @ 17¢. Edwin & Fritz Reheis finished the hay today. We had 1st. spring chicken 1¾ lb. enough for 2 meals for us. Bert. varnished dining room floor. Pap hauling straw.
