Beautiful day, warm. We baked bread & cherry coffee cake, we picked about ½ gal. cherries; some are green yet, birds help themselves also; so we might get a few more yet. Eggs are 16¢ now. We sent a book ticket to Dupo, that we received from there, for the benefit of Sacred Heart Church there; on a Ford V.8 .25¢ or 5 chances for $1. Henry was up at Meng’s; with the mares. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon, him & Rosalia took 18 bus. wheat to Waterloo got 87¢. Mrs. Renneker has a coffee demonstration at her place this afternoon, Mrs. A. Braun & Erna, Alma & Katie Klotz, Lena Meng, Clara Wagner, Mrs. Hugo Probst; lady doing the work, also Olive Laut is there. Clara Wagner came here & invited us to come to her place on today a week, June 2, she is going to have it, she won a dish, now by giving it at her place also, she gets a pyrex set. We planted the rest of sweet potatoe [sic] plants out, got the row & filled, 360 plants. Send for tennis shoes for Aunt Mary. Mr. Will Rhul & daughter was here, he looked at the rake, but said he couldn’t use it, also talked about the signing of Clover contracts this year.

Mrs. Staufenbiel came & went along with Rose & Bert to church, had Solemn Communion at 7:30 mass, 6 boys & 6 girl, 1 boy took sick, & also 1 girl, Martha Agnes McDermott who is at hospital in E. St. Louis for appendix, also Keoinstein of below Hecker is over there, pretty bad. Bill’s daughter, she is young yet. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Clara & Agnes Gregson stopped from church. Ed. Meng Katie Klotz, all called here a short while to see pap, also Joe & Josie Alberta Gregson on there way home from Waterloo, stopped. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came back this evening again. It rained pretty good here, this eve. The baseball team has a dance at Kammlers Schmidts Merrymakers musci [sic]; the crowd wasn’t so large we heard. Omer came & we went to Pautler’s to Mrs. Martin Karban’s birthday dance, Rythm [sic] Kings musci [sic]. Gents 25¢ ladies free. Nice crowd.

Celestine Neff came selling chances for a quilt, to be raffled at there play. Josie Keller visited at the hospital tonite. Lester Gregson & Cora Armstutz called there this afternoon where we were there, Bert came along home, Rose stayed tonite. Henry was over at Mengs with the team, called here a while.

Sure a windy day; we cleaned bedroom 1 bath & hall. Pap & Henry hauled wood he had dinner there at Henry’s, brought load, posts home. Hy. Hepp got the lime dust spreader. Dr. Wagner came to see pap. Mamie Eichenseer came & Rose set her hair for her. We worked in garden, sewed some more seed. Eggs are 17¢ today. Mrs. Fred Weber was taken to Belleville hospital, treated for rupture, she is Mrs. Bert Thompson’s mother. Robert Bescher is taking charge of Bert’s horses at Meng’s for the present, cause she is there all time.

Pap & Rose took load wheat to Waterloo got .80¢ bu. Pap helped Henry bring the mare up to Meng’s today. We cooked 2 kettles soap, cleaned yard, strawed potatoes. A man here selling Latex for sores, to wrap around just like rubber. Odil Eichenseer & Illinois Light & Power Man was here, pap signed up for a metoer [sic – meter]; he says there will be electric lights in Hecker by May 15, be nice. We went to Lent Devotion tonite at Red Bud. Mrs. Rennecker finished her 2 quilts for Manier’s. In Georgia from the tornado there was a man & wife & 11 children found all dead, were buried in a single row 35×7 ft.

We went out to Henry’s washed, ironed, had dinner; she [Leona] is still in bed, & he has a bad cold to. Sure got windy & cold. It is morn. for awhile, frost; froze pretty hard. Eggs 16¢. Pap went to Meng’s with the mare. Bert Thompson came over too.

Colder this morning. Papa & Rose took load wheat 85¢ to Waterloo. Ed Rehlings & Hartmanns have electric lights from Waterloo now. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon, he helped in the woods. Henry is hauling it together this afternoon; they had supper here. Levi Ganley came & looked at our haystacks, he wants to buy some. Papa took the mare over to Ed. Meng’s this evening. Eggs 15¢.

Went to mass. Beautiful day. Went to Waterloo this afternoon & around by Paderborn home, stoped [sic] at Joe Buss; looked at his horse. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here, after church this afternoon, a little while. Ed Meng & Hannecker was over looked at colt. Steve Rennekers were over awhile this evening. There was a fire went all along Kectritzs place, through the woods, & burned fields, they plowed around it yet so it wouldn’t reach Keckritz’s house & buildings.

Pap & Berti went to mass. Rose didn’t go out with mumps. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner & supper here, we had beef & she bought some shoulder meat yet, Boy! mashed potatoes & saurkraut [sic]. We got a little horse colt this morning, it was peppy & all at once took sick. Pap went over to Ed. Meng’s, & he came over, gave it castor oil & syringe it, now it is pretty good. Aunt Mary & Berti went to church this afternoon. Henry & family came this evening. There is closing of the Forty Hour Devotion at Waterloo tonite. There was a lady here selling book for 10¢, for prosperity, some kind of bibles.

Papa went to Jack Dugan’s & bought a sow for $25.00. got crushing done this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, he went up to the woods & got load rock. Ed. Meng was over awhile. Henry was here & got block & taggle, to butchered a beef soon. Horn’s funeral & in Waterloo & Dehn at Red Bud this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening & Rose & Berti went along to Oak Grove, Adm. 10¢, he paid it, Blossom City Orch; not much to it; one at Burksville also; at Waterloo.
