Leo & family came went to Belleville, sold out pretty much, 2 bacon & liver sausage was left. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were here all day. Merz fixed sprouting at there place over there, had dinner & supper here, also did Leo’s. Bert [Bertille] brought doll along for Marita. Freebug has 3 day pinic [sic], starting today, with barbecue.

Nice day. Pap went to look at Tolins mare colt – not yet 2 yrs. old bought it $75.00. Paid Merz $74.75 for tin roof put on cow barn at Henry’s on Nov. 2. Pap got crushing done. Lee Gregson & guy over at Emils trying to sell him a Chev. coupe second hand, gave him a ride down the road a piece.

Nice day. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped, then went to get Lena & Wilma Birkner, threshing done at Buehler’s. Pap couldn’t go long to help Leo thresh, on account threshing here. Mrs. Mehrmann got the eggs last nite, 10 doz. @ 16¢, they have to go threshing at Skaer’s today. Hogs sure have a good price, $12.95 today. they were $13. this yr. already; everything going up. Rob. Merz & son of Waterloo painted Uncle Fred’s house & granary roof yesterday. Leona, Robert, Billy [Willis] came Bert [Bertille] went along up to Rose [Rosalia] this morn; had dinner, baked pies this morn. had threshers for lunch, got 258 bus. oats. Buehler’s threshing here, brought the lunch up this afternoon, pap had lunch with them.

Beautiful day; but the ground is still terrible wet yet. We went to Belleville, Rose went to dentist & got the packing out of her tooth, all opened now. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up again this afternoon; we planted beans. Bertil got chain letter from Mrs. Kruse of Burksville; today Mrs. Rob. Merz of Waterloo was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital & operated for appendix, same day, last week; getting along OK present; Mr. Otto Horn was here. Mr. Davis of Belleville, here look at colt & horse.

Mary Fahey of Red Bud & John Dougherty of Renault were published for the 3rd time, wedding mass to be Tues. morning May 8. & Linus Merz of Red Bud & girl from [blank] were published also 3 rd time. Uncle Fred was by Louis Birkner this morning, who is sick with bad cold, fever & chills. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, then we went to Tiptown to euchre party, Aunt & Bertie didn’t play, the rest did, played 6 games. Rose won 5 got jar honey. 13 tables with euchre & pinochle & bunco & 13 prizes. Oh! some euchre; we stopped at Uncle Adam’s on way home, his birthday 85 yrs. old, they had so much company today, Levi & Joe Gregson’s, Lesters & family J. Myersough of Ruma. Papa asked Emil to help build & Cleveland also. Henry is sick, has fever & stomach trouble, got a tooth pulled Sat.

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile & then went home. They made there Solemn Holy Coummioun [sic – Communion] but the children where to make there private also, but didn’t know it well enough, so it was set of. It is so hot 90 in shade & oats bugs are so bad. Robert Merz & family where here this morn, but he was to late for business. People here from St. Louis bought 17 doz. eggs @ 10¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening to stay in Hecker over nite & work in the garden tomorrow. Clifford said the motor cop caught a car by John Braun’s for reckless driving, the cop had a whistle like an ambulance. There was a big parade in Belleville today, Americian [sic] Legion Convention.

We went to Waterloo Church, papa wanted to see Rob. Merz. about tin roof, this afternoon him & his family came out for awhile. Mrs. Rennecker has lot of company today, she is 60 yrs. old. We went out to Uncle Fred’s this evening. She & Lonie where at the cemetery for service this afternoon, so many strange people where there. He made a nice sermon & everything looks nice. The priest that was to make the sermon had a nervous breakdown.
