Papa & Rose went out on the farm cleaned, graniery [sic]. Awful nice day. It froze ice last nite again. Some of the Hecker firemen put up a tank for water at George Wagner’s yesterday afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came he helped papa staked the ground of for the shed, they had lunch & dinner here, Karl Boll came to tell pap, Ettling was going to come to see him next Sun. We went to Waterloo to Pautler’s Hall, to a birthday dance, musci [sic] by Moonlighters, but wasn’t much going on there, so then we drove down to Oak Grove to Pat May birthday dance, & a crowd there. Oh my & all feeling Happy.
Wednesday, Nov. 29, 1933
George Wagner came, payed [sic] for his hog $3.80 lb. Hy Meng got one to & butchered today. The Moonlighters played at a dance at Foster Pond last nite, wedding of Simon Matthews 19 & Agnes Scheinder 19 & to best, where Chas. Shilling & Mary Matthews. Tonite they played at Pautler’s park; Gents 25 ladies free. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stoped [sic] in, on there way to Red Bud, moving Christ Buehler & family down there, all the Birkners is helped. Frank Buehler moved into a different place down there. Miss Josie Keller was here for supper, she brought us each a dress goods, & quilt patterns. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came then we went to the free show in school hall. Rheinhardt from Belleville & Scout Boy’s; all free. When we left Josie got flat tire. Braun’s kids fixed it for her. Ed Pabst brought load corn.
Saturday, Nov. 25, 1933
Henry brought load corn, he was here for dinner, him & papa went to the school house signed the wheat contract today. Pabst brought wheat here; & then signed his contract to. Henry & family came this evening, kids stayed here with papa; & we went along with them to Foster Pond, for wedding anniversary dance, music by Moonlighter’s & a crowd; quite a few that we knowed. Ettling was here, $150.00.
Saturday, Oct. 7, 1933
Papa sowed wheat, Rosalia got crushing done. Hy. Meng got our mule, & worked him. We went to Red Bud to Waterloo, got glass put in chev; seen where 2 cars, that smashed this morn, by Donahue’s on R. 3, one came from St. Louis, that was Connor’s from Prairie Du Rocher, he was out on an all nite party, & was sleeping they say went the accident happened, at 6 o clock this morn, the other car was going to E. St. Louis. 7 persons where injured, 6 broken legs & in Red Bud Hospital, the cars look asight, all smashaed, total wreck, Nobbe has the cars. There is an all nite dance at Oak Groves & 20 Wedding Anniversary dance at Brezzy Hill, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Crook; musci [sic] by Moonlighters.
