Feast Day. Cloudy & rained last night. They have 13 hr. Devotion in Hecker parish today; Armin Geodell’s called there baby girl Marlene Norma. Wagner’s went to Waterloo show last night, to see “Shirley Temptte” [sic – Shirley Temple] & “Curly Top;” said it was awful nice.
Saturday, Sept. 16, 1933
We went to Waterloo this evening, to see the talking picture show, “Horse Sense & “Benefactor” given free by Ins. Co. it was sure nice, from there we went to the Grand Opening “Dance”Donahue” Road house, free, except eats & drinks, it was also a Braun’s birthday; & crowd, just packed, Henry & Leona where there to. There musci [sic] was Kohler Orch. & at Brezzy Hill there where 4 celebrating birthday.
Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1931
We baked pumpkin pies, cake, for celebrating Bertille’s birthday tonight. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, Uncle Fred & Papa went to see Hempe’s & Kelley. Aunt Mary & Bertille went over by Mrs. Stauenfbiel we got a slip rosebush from her a pink one. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for supper & this eve. Henry & family came, played cards. Henry lost a little heifer today, Johnson Bro. got it. Tonight is talking movi pictures in the School Hall & Baseball Club has a dance in Kammler’s Hall.
Sunday, April 5, 1931
Today is Easter. Henry & family were here for breakfast. The rabbit laid the boy’s egg again. This afternoon we drove out to Uncle Fred’s but there was no one at home, so we drove out past the cemetery, but we couldn’t get in their, the gate was locked shut then we drove back home again. Then we went to Waterloo, Coxeyville to see Mr. Miester Jr. the fellow that bought our horses, but they sure do look bad. We came back home again about 3:30. Papa went up town. Bill Matzenbacher has a new Whippet, everybody getting new cars. There was a man here, wanted to buy eggs, but we wanted 20¢ & he wouldn’t pay that. There was a man here from Belleville & bought 2 doz. for 20¢. Odillo Eichenseer & Angela drove down here with his car & showed it to us. This evening Philip & Bill came & then we went along with them to Belleville to a show. “It Pays to Advertise” was the name of it.
Sunday, Oct. 19, 1930
We had our first snow this morning for this year. Today is shooting matches all over, George Boll’s, Martin Doyl’s, Mike McCarthy’s. There is also a picnic in Smithton fish fry and dance tonight. Henry and family were all here for dinner today. We had roast beef. Tonight Rosalia & Bertille went to the picture show in the new school hall, the name of the show was “Noah’s Ark” in 10 reels. There was a good crowd there. Admission was 10 and 25¢.
Sunday, Sept. 21, 1930
We all went to early mass this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Floraville to the church picnic. Mr. Carr was here from Renault, he asked the way to Bill Geodelle, to buy a team of horses. Tonight we all went to the picture show the name of it was Rin Tin Tin. Admission .25 and .10¢. At Recess Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary left for the dance down at Weber’s barn. It was a surprise party for Mrs. Weber. Today is Jake Reheis birthday. After the show this evening they raffled out the cards from the picnic. The lucky winners were, Hy. Schneider from Waterloo, John Braun 2 times, Louisa Braun, Peter Kaiser, Joe Kaiser, Oscar Schmidt from Valmeyer, Fred W. Birkner he got a pair of pillow cases. Hecker played ball with St. Louis and won 20 to 4.
