Rain last nite & all morning showers. Bert [Bertille] washed few clothes & dresses, A. [Aunt] Mary’s front door curtains. Ed. Watchel & Lester Bruns both have new second hand cars. Mrs. Jake Helfrich is being buried this morn. at Paderborn, church at St. Mary’s [ed. note – should be St. Michael’s], then out to cemetery. She is Louis Mueth’s daughter, sister to Mike, John & Joe. Helfrichs have 12 children 7 boy & 5 girls. 1 girl died; pretty large family. Jake is manager carpenter for Relief Work. on the W.P.A. Project at Belleville. She was 43 yrs. ill 3 mons. taken to hospital on Mon. Fr. Orlet has charge of funeral, Fr. was sick to, had touch of pneumonia, but is better again now. Went to Waterloo 13 bus. wheat @ $1.18 best price; got paint for house, stopped at Henry’s; he is building a toilet, in ground one. Went to Wagner’s, Berniece fainted this morn, turned real blue & pale, called doctor, he says stomach trouble, she ate to green cherries yesterday; Mehrmann got the eggs @ 16¢. we had 8 dozen.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up early; also came last nite, Rose went to church with her; Uncle & pap went out to Uncle Adam’s, he fell again today; while Aunt Mary was there, he carried a rocker out in the kitchen, & then was going for his rocker, & fell on the floor. Emil was at Joe Gregsons. Uncle Fred & pap helped Emil get him to bed that evening, Levi & Clara came here after church, to see how he was, but Emil had called for them to come, so they & Joe’s all went out yet, he couldn’t stand it in bed; pap stopped in this morn. went he went out to the woods, going to get the doctor, he thinks it is fractured hip, Josie was out all nite. Pinkel agent for Nobbe chev. Co. was here wanted to see pap trade cars. Ed. Parker & Fr. Simon came also to see pap, & he wasn’t home. A year ago today Margaret McDermott died. Mr. Ed Weber & Gus Stehfest have new cars the paper says. Rose & Aunt Mary went to church.

Papa got crushing done. A man around selling pears 60¢ bu. We went to Belleville. Zippel brought the hog feed that was ordered. We walked up to Mamie’s but she wasn’t at home, then she came down here, & gave us a call; she was by Mrs. Staufenbiel. Odillo has a new chev, traded his old one in, coach, orange weehls [sic] tan body; got it this morning. Ed Parkers have a V8 ford, not new.

We all went out butchering at Henry’s, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Emil helped, a pretty big one he killed, to sell tomorrow again. Bertille went to town, got a money order to Chicago Mail Order for shoes for Aunt Mary. Blackburn have a different car, chev. coach, Storall’s a Deluxe Delivery. Elmer Kammler has Harry’s, he got a second hand Chev. Clem Parker has Geo Kuhns ford coupe; & several others got others.

Josie came up for church this morn, & she came down here & brought papa glasses along, he forgot them last night, Papa is sewing clover seed. It is cloudy & cooler today. Mr. & Mrs. Joe Geodelle nee Fritz have a little baby boy Joe Jr. born Feb. 24 Friday. Mrs. Kreitner of Edison Place obtained a divorce from her husband, lawyer Eugene Kreitner, charge cruelty. The Farm Bureau Office at Waterloo is moved 2 doors west in Ruch’s building, on account lack of space. A transfer of Christian Betsman & wife to Dominic Klein in in the paper. Dr. Werth & A.A. Brandt, where purchasers of new Chev, Coupes. There where 2 fellows here looked at our mules. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Josie came up for church, we played cards, 2 games.
