Papa went out to Henry’s, help Mr. Fournie of Ziebold’s place, got the oats, he got 64 bus @ 60¢. Ivo Rapp was here & asked to for oats. Papa went to Mrs. Gambach & bought her plow for Henry $2.50; it is in Wm. Gregson’s stable. Henry came furrowed the land. We went to Belleville this afternoon. This evening went out to Henry’s, played cards. Eggs are 22¢ here, we got 17¢ chickens at Belleville.

No threshing this morning. Papa & Rose went to Waterloo load wheat. Sure was some awful hot days the last while; 110 & 112 in the shade, hottest & dryest [sic] year, in 32 & 36 yrs. ago. In Kansas, it must be terrible, stock all dying; 3700 cows & calf were brought to E. St. Louis Stockyards yesterday, some so weak & they shot them right away. People are dying from the heat, the paper says 510 so far, from different states, one place it rained so much that 28 acres bottom corn, all washed out. Dillinger the gangster was shot to death now, while coming out a theather [sic] Sun. night. Frank Dudenhoeffer’s of Oklahoma, nee Lizzie Mueth, are visiting relatives here, since last Friday, leaving Sun; We went out threshing, at Henry’s, had them for lunch; got 128 bus. oats our share. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were also there; came home through town. Watermelon in town.

We washed, ironed. Awful hot again today. Buehler’s threshing this afternoon. Joe Schilling’s threshed oats today. Henry came & papa went along with him to Joe Herzog’s, to look at a team horses, that he has for sale; he is sick in bed, wants to move to town; sell out. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, it rained, thunder, & lighten [sic- lightning], pretty much. Eggs are 11¢ again. Irvin Buehler is home again from the hospital Sun. evening; he still has clamps on his head in the back, the doctor has to open that now, & take the book out of there; he has lost so much blood, the doctor had said, if it would have been 15 mins longer, they couldn’t have saved him anymore. Hy. Gruber, who just moved out to Al Gregson’s place from Waterloo, died about 4:30 this evening, in a chair, his wife went to feed the chicks, when she came back to him, he was just stretching out, he was sick awhile back, but last Thurs. was in town, visiting Hill’s. Wagner Undertaker got the corpse.

We all went out to Henry’s, helped wash, iron & patch, had lunch, dinner & lunch. They finished cutting wheat, used about 130 lbs. twine; started cutting oats. Emil was shocking. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening, brought some dewberries along, she put away 2 gal.; nice cool evenings. Rose fixed a Whip. tire, patched it.

We planted 4 bus. potatoes this morning. We all went out to Henry’s took the mule along out. Papa & Rosalia took some wheat along into Waterloo. Mr. & Mrs. Rudy Geodelle & Mrs. Fritz & Hilda came out there too. Bill was working there yesterday & today, sewing oats & today is was to wet, so they shocked corn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & her & Rosalia & Bertille went along to church in Hecker & took the pattern along for Levi Gregson’s. Joe & Josie are both in bed, sick with flu.

Papa hauled 2 loads of wood today. Bertille curled Rosalias hair this evening, we quilt a while today. Harold Wagner was here with seed, we bought a 5¢ package of beets from him. Wilfred Eichenseer got ½ bu. oats this afternoon for 10¢.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in, from here they went to Belleville. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to get a load of wheat & oats. Mr. Bess Miller of Waterloo, is going to give a birthday dance Feb. 1. Adm. 25¢ musci [sic] by the accidentals. The way he says in the paper that Miss Ethel mason teacher of Kirsch School, is going to resign on Feb. 10, to get married. Mr. Russel Gregson is driving a new plymouth sedan. It is awful cold this evening.

We washed and iron & baked bread today. Papa & Rosalia got a load of oats at Henry’s this afternoon. Cyril & Clarence came down this eve, & got each a bu. oats & sack of hay for 300 for there rabbits. Aunt Mary called up this evening, she was quilting at Henry Birkners today. Ed. Meng was over & paid Uncle Freds int. Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Reheis has a little boy since Dec. 27, they have now a girl & boy. Mrs. Joe Mueth nee Brocs died at 5 o clock this eve. Papa went to town. Miss Martha Boll of St. Louis called out to Geo. Boll’s & congraulated [sic] him on his birthday. Joe Watchel is butchering.

We cleaned & baked today. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon & got oats, she got her hair cut. It started in to rain a little this evening but not much, & got cold, this morn. it was over a 100 in the shade, & this eve. we had to put sweaters on to sit on the front porch.

Papa got some whey again this morning. Then he went to Waterloo on business. Ed Pabst brought 6½ bus. oats up this morning. Mr. Hill was calling for papa, but he wasn’t at home. Joe Mueth was over there again. It sure is hot today. There was a fellow here brought us a sample box of Kriscpies. We had spring chicken dinner today. We got 5½ qts. pickles so far.
