Cold this morn. Pap took 17 bu. wheat to Waterloo 63 [cents]; went to Odd Fellows Hall electric show. Chas. Stookey & Nichobaun sisters of KMOX were there. Aunt Mary & Bert [Bertille] went to Red Bud to Raffte for permanents Bert got $2. & A. [Aunt] Marys wouldn’t take, color came back again; so she cut them up short. Eggs 15 [cents]. A hair dryer & electric clock was given away at Waterloo today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Bert [Bertille] went Waterloo to show. Marie Kolmer won percolator & Mitchell Electric toaster & hair dryer as attendance prize, large crowd.

S. Rennecker got 1 qt. milk. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rose & Bert went along down to Boll’s, a little while, then went to Belleville, Bert got coat $5.67, nice one. Mr. Boll was 87 yrs. old large funeral Koch Undertaker; people came from all over. Berti mailed a card for Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary a request for Oscar Birkner’s 13 Wedding Ann. to sing “Red Sales in the Sunset,” Sat. morn, & also asked for acidine [sic – accordion]. Presidents’ Birthday Ball all over this evening, 1 at Waterloo at Odd Fellows Hall.

Papa pumped the water out of Uncle Fred’s cellar this morning. Mr. Rennecker & Hy Armstutz are butchering 1 hog at Mrs. Arns today. Bertille got the papers. Mr Wm. Laut & Mr. John Hepp are awful bad sick no hopes for recovery. Mr. Laut got a light stroke again. Mr. Hepp here in town has kidney trouble. There is a big free dance tonite at the Odd Fellow Hall at Waterloo. Seen in the paper that Wm. Sensel’s mother, Mrs. Mary Sensel was buried last Sun. afternoon at Waterloo 74 yrs. old; her husband preceded her in death about 2 yrs. ago. Dr. Sennot died, most probably be buried this afternoon, being ill for several months, in former years, he practice as his doctor in Hecker for several yrs. According to Bill Kleyer’s onion, this is supposed to be a very dry year. Sheriff Al Gaven took Wm. Zimmer Jr. to the Vandalia Penal Farm last Friday. Alf. Mueller who was clerk at Connor’s Store is now employed at Gauen’s Store since the first & Joe Johnson is now employed at Connor’s.

It snowed last night, everything is white, & cold. George Wagner’s family & Mrs. Rennecker went to Belleville this afternoon. Geo. Boll went around selling meat & beef today. The Farm Bureau are giving a dance in the Odd Fellows hall tonite, members are free & other’s 25¢. Robert Laut’s family are visiting Rennecker’s this evening.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up & then we all went to the Farmer’s Insititute [sic] at Waterloo, they disposed of 9 turkeys, they sent the roosters of the Odd Fellows hall & the one that catches it gets the turkey. A hard times dance concluded it, Adm. 25¢ for men. We registered for 5 gals motor oil, that the Farm Buruea [sic] gives away. They had all nice quilts & needle work, on exhibition, John Reheis brought a pumpitn [?] in & got 1 prize on it. Henry brought a load of corn today. Babe Johnson 54 yrs old marshall of Waterloo fell over dead Mon. nite & buried yesterday. Eunice Fritsche license 19 yrs old & Causby’s was in paper.
Saturday, Nov. 22, 1930
Papa went to Waterloo this afternoon to get his watch fixed. Henry & Leona went to Belleville this afternoon & got the kids new shoes. The kids stayed here. The Democrat candidates gave a free dance & lunch in the Odd Fellow’s Hall tonight, Henry & Leona went there, it was so crowded in the basement & also on the second floor. Hugo Radan furnished the latest music & Crooks Ramblers the old time music. We were out at George Boll’s celebrating Karl’s 20 birthday. Cake, Lemonade, Beer, wine, sandwiches were the refreshments served. Papa bought 2 little pigs this afternoon from a man by Burksville. He also brought a little kitten along too.
