Sunday, Sept. 3, 1933

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we went to the Waterloo Homecoming seen the parade, it was large & very nice. They had trained bear, & Whip to ride. It started in raining we left about 5:30; free dancing in afternoon. Came home & ate supper.

Monday, Sept. 5, 1932

Today is Labor Day. Firemen Pinic [sic] at Red Bud & pinic [sic] at Tiptown. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up then we went to Red Bud, seen the parade, it was nice, then we went out to St. Joe to see Mr. Michael to make a trade with him our 2 horses & his mule, cow & calf, so tomorrow I guess he brings it as far as Henry’s. From there we went to Tiptown pinic [sic], met a few people there, had sandwich there. They [caught] Peter Carr & arrested him took him to Waterloo for selling booze on the grounds, he isn’t right, is out of his mind; he claimed the Reed’s where selling it, not him, Cody & May gave him a hit on the nose, his ears where bleeding nose & mouth, he looked a sight. Then we came back & spent the rest of the time in Red Bud pinic [sic], then came home & ate watermellons. Henry was up at noon & got whey for himself & a can for us, couldn’t get none all long.

Sunday, Sept. 4, 1932

We all went out to Uncle Fred’s had chicken dinner, then got ready & went to Waterloo to see the parade & pinic [sic], it was good, & this evening we went out to Geo. Fruend’s, they had a little boy, celebrating Creses birthday, had supper there. It was a nice day.

Monday, July 4, 1932

Today is Farm Bureau pinic [sic] in Waterloo & at all Seats, they have a big parade, other things. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here & then went along with us to the pinic [sic], we left about 9:30, seen the parade, in the afternoon music was furnished by the Farm Bureau Band of eight pieces & speeches, by Mr. Kolber chairman, & Farm Advisor of St. Louis Co, Mr. Tillman. A Talk on Washington by Dillenberger & drawing of thicket & raising of Barley Korn. At 3:30 everything was over. Aunt Mary took the basket along & we had dinner. We stopped in at Henry’s on the way home. This evening we went to George Wagner’s awhile.

Sunday, June 5, 1932

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here awhile & then went home. They made there Solemn Holy Coummioun [sic – Communion] but the children where to make there private also, but didn’t know it well enough, so it was set of. It is so hot 90 in shade & oats bugs are so bad. Robert Merz & family where here this morn, but he was to late for business. People here from St. Louis bought 17 doz. eggs @ 10¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening to stay in Hecker over nite & work in the garden tomorrow. Clifford said the motor cop caught a car by John Braun’s for reckless driving, the cop had a whistle like an ambulance. There was a big parade in Belleville today, Americian [sic] Legion Convention.

Sunday, Sept. 6, 1931

We all went to Red Bud church, was home at 9 o clock.  We went into Waterloo to see the parade, it was good, but not much of it.  They had all kind of attractions, also ferris wheel.  We came home about 10:30, we watched them dance.

Saturday, August 15, 1931

Papa went to Belleville church this morning.  Emil came down a little while.  About 10 o clock this morn.- we started out for a trip, all of us, & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, took our basket along.  We drove to Red Bud, Ruma, Evansville, then to Mike Gross Peach orchard, & ordered 2 bus. 75¢ bu. they gave us some to take along, then we drove to New Palastine & went to Ed Hale sale, we didn’t stop long, then went to Walsh, from there to Baldwin, Preston, then to New Athens, Freeburg, where we took in the parade of 40 floats & 7 bands, sure was nice, then to Douglas, Smithon, [sic] Hecker, then had supper.  We exactly covered 120 miles.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went home.  Meng got his horses this morn.

Saturday, May 30, 1931

Papa got crushing done.  There is School Picnic in Waterloo today, parade of the children is at 9:30.  Everything is closed today, stores, banks, barber shops, also because it is Memorial Day.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up at 10 o’clock, then we drove down to Fr. Chartres, from there we went to Polaceki sale at Fults, the May’s where there from there we came home, we hit the hard road at Parrot’s Corner, we came through a quite a few towns, & good roads, drove along the bluffs, we covered 58 miles, was back at 4 o’clock.  Harry Kammler’s is giving a dance tonight, but it ain’t so nice, cool, it rained where we were today, but not much here at home.  The Hecker ball teams played today.  The Blue Capes against the Hecker All Stars, in favor or Blue Caps, the score was 13 to 14.

Sunday, August 31, 1930

The parade will be at 1 o’clock.  They are going to have a direble (?) out at Breezy Hill.  $5 for 20 min.  This morning Sam Krehrer & wife, Josie & Lee Gregson were all here.  Sam & wife looked for water & we all watched them.  They made the stick bent.  After dinner we all went in to see the parade & stayed for the evening.

Thursday, July 31, 1930

Today is Ike Napier’s sale.  We all went to Napier’s this afternoon.  There was a large crowd there & things brought a pretty fair price.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary got an invitation to come back tonight again.  So I guess they will go.  We got an invitation to come to Wiegand’s on Aug. 12 & to Blackburns Aug. 13 & to Clevelands next Sat. night.  Hurrah! for a good time.  Mary May was buried this morning at Tipton Church and cemetery.  We had a little rain this morning.  We fixed a tire & tube.  Ed Ming bought most of his stuff today from Ike.  He got 2 horses & wagon, brooder house and many other articles.  Today is Robinson’s Circus in Belleville.  Emil Brand went up to see the parade.  Bertille went and got the mail this evening, our paper come in the evening now.
