Sunday, April 24, 1932

We went to Red Bud church, & also went to the hospital to see Mamie Meuth, she got operated for appendix, she is getting along fine. Clem Parker & Aaron Papenberg where here & invited us for the barn dance at George Parkers tonite, Elmer’s 18th Birthday. So we went out this evening. Papa went up town this afternoon. Bertille went up to Lester Gregson’s but there was nobody there, they where at Joe Gregsons.

Friday, March 25, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came over this morning he helped to move the hogs at the straw shed & ring them. They stayed in Hecker, nearly all day. We went to Red Bud to church. Bertille helped Aunt Mary scrub. Rosalia & papa went out to Henry’s he helped him, then he brought the mule home. Gus Geodelle’s where there too. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, tonite for church, then they went to Wm. Birkner’s, Oliver’s birthday, school children where present, playing games. We got 67 chick from our incubators, & out of set 110 eggs.

Thursday, March 24, 1932

This morning we went to church, communion at 8 oclock, & mass at 9 o clock. We had dinner over at Uncle Freds. This afternoon Bert Thompson brought 2 colts & got 3 hogs, even up trade. This afternoon we went to Mrs. Dugan to see if she would buy our eggs, but she had plenty, so we took them to Waterloo to Krogers got 10¢, had 51 doz. eggs, then papa & Gus Geodelle went out to Henry Ambrecht west of Waterloo & looked at a mule, seen him work, then tonight Henry took the buggy & went after him, we came home & papa & Uncle Fred went back to Henry Ambrecht again got 2 hogs & mule for $35.00. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper with us, we took Uncle Freds car & went out to Henry’s, Bobby’s birthday 6 year. old. cake, lemonade served. Rosalia got a letter from Rosie Meuth inviting us all to come to Oak Grove Mar. 30, for her wedding dance, Osie Matzenbacher. We went to church in Waterloo awhile this afternoon, till papa got back. Ella Stalheber was here but we weren’t at home.

Sunday, March 13, 1932

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here all day for dinner & supper. Then we all went out to Henry’s to Floyd’s birthday he was 3 yrs old. Cake, Lemonade, ice cream, where served. Geodell’s where out in the afternoon. Henry Lutker & son in law from St. Louis was here, he wants to get an egg route, we sold him 20 doz. Sun; he pays 1¢ above St. Louis No 1. price.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner & supper. We played pinochle this afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Meng celebrated there Golden Wedding 50 yr. Annverisary [sic]. All the relation from both sides where present for supper.

Sunday, Feb. 28, 1932

We went to Red Bud. We had dinner & supper at Uncle Freds accross [sic] the street today. Mamie & Lucinda Eichenseer where also there a while, then they came over & looked at our little pigs, & chickens, we have 45 chicks now, & 5 little pigs. Aunt Mary went to church & Uncle Fred came over & we played a game pinochle, then they went to Oscar Birkner’s yet, Gilbert birthday.

Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1932

Uncle Fred brought Josie up to Hecker then we took her along to Belleville. We sold 23 doz. eggs for $3.72. The package from Chicago Mail Order came everything allright. The Social Club at Red Bud are having a party this evening.

Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1932

Rained last nite. Today Aunt Mary is 55 yrs old. We went out right after dinner had supper there. Louie was down in the afternoon & we played 5 hand pinochle. About 5 o clock a big showrer [sic] or rain come up. Then later it cleaned of so nice, moon shined & stars. About 9 o’clock, George Parker’s kids & Schaefer’s & Pappenbergs kids all came, card playing pinochle & [ineligible] till 12. Cake & lemonade where served. Musci [sic] was played.

Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1931

I seen in Sat. paper the marriage license for Ed. Neff, 24 & Emma Braun 20, they where married Sat. night, by Fr. Grootens in Nic. Schaefer’s house in St. Clair Co. Best where Vic. Braun & Erna Braun. Today is Uncle Fred’s birthday, he is 57. We went out this eve, there was a bunch there & they danced. Uncle Fred had to get Josie again. John Braun was here on business. Leomade [sic-lemonade] & cake where served at Birthday.

Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1931

We baked pumpkin pies, cake, for celebrating Bertille’s birthday tonight. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, Uncle Fred & Papa went to see Hempe’s & Kelley. Aunt Mary & Bertille went over by Mrs. Stauenfbiel we got a slip rosebush from her a pink one. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for supper & this eve. Henry & family came, played cards. Henry lost a little heifer today, Johnson Bro. got it. Tonight is talking movi pictures in the School Hall & Baseball Club has a dance in Kammler’s Hall.
