Shortest day. Winter begins. Went to Waterloo. Bert [Bertille] got permanent at Colonial Beauty Shop $3.00. Pap bought new radio from Bersche, gave $3.00 for our old radio, trade in on push button zenith stub $15.00. We got Christmas cards from Mr & Mrs Geo. Shecan [?] Emil Schilling & Josie Keller. Awful cold to be 20 tonite. Bill [Klein] came got Bert went to Belleville to Lincoln Theatre to see Jones Family in “Busy to Work,” giving a Ford V8 away.

Cold this morn. Pap took 17 bu. wheat to Waterloo 63 [cents]; went to Odd Fellows Hall electric show. Chas. Stookey & Nichobaun sisters of KMOX were there. Aunt Mary & Bert [Bertille] went to Red Bud to Raffte for permanents Bert got $2. & A. [Aunt] Marys wouldn’t take, color came back again; so she cut them up short. Eggs 15 [cents]. A hair dryer & electric clock was given away at Waterloo today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Bert [Bertille] went Waterloo to show. Marie Kolmer won percolator & Mitchell Electric toaster & hair dryer as attendance prize, large crowd.

Beautiful day, warm. Took load wheat to Waterloo $1.15. Bert [Bertille] got permanet [sic] at Colonial Beauty Shop, Vivian Ripley & Aurelia Hellmer, pap went to Morris sale, bought few articles gun etc. Went to Paderborn to Ronnenberg’s Wedding dance, large crowd Birkner Orch. received few presents, had white dress & veil; & Helen bridesmaid yellow lace dress & Alp. Karban best man; quite few strangers.

Cool & windy today. Pap went up in woods again had dinner at Henry’s. Rose & Berti went to Waterloo to the colonial Beauty Shoppe got permanents made, all ringlets Frederic & Boy! they sure are pretty, $3.00 waves; there is just 2 girls working there Marg. Davis & Bertha Sauerwein; & are very nice, took 3 hrs. for both of us. Arlene Klotz is as good as can be expected. The Tiptown Parish have a card party in the school hall there tonite; pretty cool for it tonite.

Henry & Leona & Rose & Berti went to St. Louis left 6:30, boys stayed here with papa, we got permanent waves, $2.00 apiece, & white shoes, Poetker of Smithon [sic] was here looking for hogs, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stop then went to Waterloo, this morn. Coming home from St. Louis there was an awful delay on the bridge, accident happened; slow traffic.
