Pres. Birthday. Ball’s being held all over this eve, some were held Sat. & Sun. nite also. Some awful weather some places. Chicago 11 ins snow. St. Louis 5 ins snow 28 [degrees]. not so cold here, as in some places.

Saturday, Jan. 29, 1938

Henry stopped in got crushing done. Bert [Bertille] baked cream pie. Rose [Rosalia] brought qt. milk last nite. Mr. John Horn of here died this morn. at 7 o’clock, we seen Quernheim’s come out to get him. Wm. Ganley came on business. We & Emil went out to Henry’s this afternoon. Hess & Cleveland helped yet to cut corn fodder for chop for feed; we had supper there. This eve. we went to Rob. Lauts; Rob & pap lost every game pinochle but 1; had popcorn, coffee cake, wine; seen the plans for Rob’s new house 28 x 32 its going to be. Tonite is Pres. birthday balls some places. Masquerade at Floraville.

Thursday, Jan. 28, 1937

Bert baked cookies; patched. We got oats over. Sure a beautiful day, nice warm, snowing & ice melting away fast, & lots water & mud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped, he went to Waterloo she stayed at Henry’s, visited them for awhile; brought us 100 lbs. flour along $3.49. It is getting awful cloudy & hazy in sky all around. Tonite is the President Birthday Ball at Waterloo in 2 halls; like usal [sic – usual].

Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1936

We cooked soap, cleaned the yard, seperated [sic] & marked chicken. Pap & Berti went out to Henry’s with the wagon, Berti helped clean front room, brought load corn fodder along back. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, fixing her dress; had Oscar’s baby along to. Sure beautiful weather. The tree man was here again, he won’t start hauling for awhile, they are working in the bottoms now. Mr. & Mrs. Walter Neff have baby. Pres. Roosevelt came to St. Louis & E. St. Louis & made a speech, 400,000 people.

Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1936

Berti ironed. Pap & Rose went out to do Henry’s feeding took the boys along; brought the bacon along & fried them down here; pap & Rose went out to do the feeding again tonite; brought the boys along, didn’t hear from Leona today. Pres. Roosevelt is going to speak over the radio from E. St. Louis Station tonite at 9:o clock. Heberers of Duqouin, & people from St. Louis isn’t back yet; they caught 3 fellows today & held them at E. St. Louis. We listened to the Pres. speech, there were 1,800 people present at D.C.

Wednesday, Jan. 30, 1935

Presidents 53 Birthday Ball; tonite, 3 in Monroe Co. Mr. Meister & Krupp was here, looked at the farm implements. Papa went out to Henry’s helped measure wheat ground. Henry & Ed. Schmidt came here, measured up here then. Most beautiful day, so nice warm. Birthday dances tonite at Pautlers Old Time, musci [sic] by Moonlighters, one at Odd Fellows modern & at Columbia; 40¢ ticket, can attend all three, for the same one.

Saturday, March 4, 1933

Today is President Rossevelts [sic] day in Washington. Papa & Rosalia got a load of wood; & stopped in at Henry’s, Cleveland’s Geodell’s, Gus & Rudy’s family where by them last nite. Had an awful heavy white frost this morn. We all went to Schmidts sale by Fults this afternoon, things brought an awful high price, we went through Cahflin [sic] Bridge & Maeystown home, meet Mr. Schilling teacher, came through Burksville etc.
