Christmas. Went to Red Bud, 6 o clock mass. stayed for 2 masses. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Henry & family & Leo & Rose [Rosalia] all here for dinner & supper played cards etc. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & we went out to Henry’s this eve. listened to radio, ate candy, nuts, cookies etc. Nice warm, rain this morn.

Washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were here for dinner, worked in there basement, putting a concrete slab on side for to set fruit cans etc. on. Today is Vic Prophet parade in St. Louis, was to be broadcast on radio at 7:45 tonite, also have big dance on some street. Went to euchre in school hall had 7 points, got nothing neither did Uncle Fred & A. Mary not much prizes, not so much of a crowd. 16 tables euchre; there is Rosary Devotion at Red Bud, euchre at Donahues Tipton parish, Ida Schmierbach wedding dance at Fateyville.

Mrs. Staufenbiel went along to Red Bud mass. Yesterday was 25 Silver Wedding Ann. of Mr & Mrs Alb. Cleveland was announced over the radio, today is Alb. birthday. Fri nite Nic Mueths celebrated there 25 Silver Wedd. Ann. at Log Cabin by Red Bud invitation dance. We went to Uncle Freds for dinner & supper. They came up this eve. & Bert [Bertille] went along to church had benediction, tried the organ, it is not finished, were so many keys that never worked but is is wonderful now. Then we went to Paderborn to Totsch’s free dance, & what a crowd, Skaer Orch. The Wedd. anni. of Al. Clevelands went over the radio again this afternoon, german musci [sic], or polish hr; requested by Grover.

Washed, put stitched quilt in the frame. Pap hauled wood, getting cold this afternoon. Robert has sore hand scratched it Sun. red & swollen now. Santa Claus is on the air every nite now, at 6:05.
Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1936
We washed, ironed, went to election, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, going to butcher tomorrow here. Rose went quilting at Wagners & supper there. The fruit man was around. Eggs are 30¢ now. Burdgorf looked at the heifers, didn’t buy yet. Roosevelt & Horner are reelected; by big majority. There is a election return dance at Pautlers & Odd fellows Hall tonite free. Mrs. Vera Boo Republican circuit clerk was elected; against Schemeir Democrat candidate. The radio stations were on air all nite.

Raining all nite; warm this morning 34 above. Josie Keller’s birthday. George Wagner got 1 lb butter. A man here begging for something to eat. A Stumpf girl 7 yrs. age died at St. Mary’s Hospital, from fractured legs, she is from Waterloo, was broadcasted over radio, E. St. Louis Station. So many coal trucks went down today; coal is pretty hard to get now, a restaurant burned at New York, last nite; A womens club gave party & dance, a Holy Society, priest was also present; 200 people were dancing flames spread on through floor. It also was said, that they never seen so many accident along the road like today, cars turned over lying in ditches from the icy roads, & foggy weather, at & around St. Louis, terrible.
