Wednesday, June 25, 1930

Today is Mrs. Mike Armstutz birthday and also Yvonne Rapp’s.  We have an invitation for Rapp’s, but we ain’t going to go.  Uncle Fred brought Aunt Mary up this morning then he went home again.  She helped us fix our dresses.  Aunt Mary & Bertille was at the store this morning and we also went upstairs by Mamie, and tried one of her dresses on, so I got mine fixed just like heres, only mine has a big collar.  It got awful windy this afternoon.  It started to thunder and lightnin’ and then rain.  So in the evening Uncle Fred walked up here.  He came here in time for supper.  She [Aunt Mary] was here all day.  In the evening they went down to Armstutz’s birthday.  Then afterwards they stayed here all night.  It rained again so much that night.  Rapp’s had an awful crowd.  They invited us but we didn’t go.  It looked too much like rain.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had an invitation.

Friday, June 20, 1930

Papa went up town this morning.  Rosalia was up at Mamie Eichenseers this afternoon and got one of her dress patterns.  She brought our umbrella along back.  They got it fixed up now.  The men are going to work in the quarry again today.  Fr. Grootens called on Uncle Fred to come to the new school and work today.  He was afraid it was going to rain so Rosalia went out there and brought them along back.  Then Uncle Fred and Papa went to work at the school all day.  Henry & family came up this afternoon.  Henry & Leona went to Belleville and the kids stayed here.  Aunt Mary & Bobby carried lunch up to the men working, to Uncle Fred and Papa.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner, supper & breakfast with us.  Clarence Wagner was down a little while this evening or this afternoon playing with Bobby.  This evening Mamie, Angela Eichenseer & Mrs. Joe Wachtel came here to get us.  Then we all went up to Kammler’s Hall and celebrated Odillo Eichenseer’s birthday.  There were quite a few people there – Gus Blackburn, Uncle Fred, Karl Boll, Hy. Rausch & Ralph Rausch furnished the music.  Gus Blackburn charged $3.00.  They had 8 cakes baked.  We sure had a good time!  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed all night at our house.  There is going to be a dance at Rapp’s next Wed., but we got no invitation.

Wednesday, May 21, 1930

Today the Bishop comes to Hecker to confirm 37 children.  Bertille went up to church at 6:30 this morning.  Henry, Leona, Mrs. Jake Geodelle were at church too.  Robert, Floyd was here at our house.  They all had breakfast here.  At 9 o’clock we went to church again the Bishop came.  The people were to meet the Bishop at Philip Cortner’s place.  There were quite a few went out with their machine all decorated.  Leona got confirmed today.  Mrs. Jake Geodelle was Sponsor.  There were 14 priests there with the Bishop.  Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville this afternoon.  Eggs are .17¢.  There is going to be a dance at Rapp’s tonight, but we got no invitation so we won’t go.  Miss Bertha Wolf of Belleville is in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is under surgical attention.  She lives at 414 East Mckinley Street.  Papa & Bertille went out to Henry’s this evening.  Bertille took her first automobile lesson.

Saturday, March 1, 1930

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon.  Papa and Henry are going to James Cody’s sale and Rosalia is going to stay by Leona.  Bertille stayed at home.  Today is Irv Rapp’s birthday.  There is to be a party, but we were not invited.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are going down to Red Bud this afternoon.  It is also Christ. Buehler’s birthday.  Lester Gregson moved on the Thompson place last Wednesday.  He intends to haul milk.  He wants to buy Griffin’s route, the one Elmer Lother drives.  If he got the route he was to start today.  Bertille took 3 dozen eggs to Eichenseers this afternoon and got .21¢ a dozen.  Mamie & Angela Eichenseer are coming down tonite to keep Bertille company.  We found 20 eggs.
