Papa hauled wood. Washington birthday. Yesterday it was so hot & today it is just the opposite, north wind & cold; real sickening weather, quite a few people at Waterloo have chicken pox & measles. Mrs. Christ Buehler’s & Martha Bell’s birthday. Transfer of George Purtle to Chas. Minneman was quoted in the times $3,000.00.

We cleaned chicken houses & sprayed with coal oil, got load oats. Mr. Ralph Wiegand & Luella Bruns were sponsors last Sun morn. at Smithon [sic] after services for George Kuhn Jr. son, called it Ralph George, she was Emily Wiegand. We baked 2 cherry pies. In the Waterloo paper, it is that Richard Crowe, Uncle Matt boy, went 8 yrs. to the Catholic School, without missing a day or tardy. Lawrence, infant son of Ed. Berge, was operated on in St. Mary’s hospital, & reports, he is now at home & improving nicely. The transfer of Ida Mueller to Fred Faust is in today. Ida Sommers place. Rev. Eschman is taking treatments in St. Mary’s Hospital. Fred Henke had misfortune of having 2 ribs cracked last Sat. on a fall on a runaway team. There is a truck & put up a tent on the city lot, here & is having moving picture show, for 3 nights, & vaudville [sic], Adm. 20¢. The Farm Bureau is having free movie at Pautlers farm tonite. Berti was at Eliza Boll’s got 25 plants of sweet potatoes for Uncle Fred; they came up to plant them out this eve.

Linus Buehler’s birthday; 13 yrs. old. Renneckers are papering dining room & kitchen. Papa got a letter from Mrs. Leohr to meet Hempe’s this afternoon, 2 o clock in Waterloo. The transfer is in the paper of Christian Bestmann & wife to Peter Reheis, $3,000. Steve Rennecker was here to borrow some planks, so he can paper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to Waterloo, they met the Hempe Bros. at the post office. We got some free flower seed at Hamscher’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt had lunch here, went home, came back, went to Red Bud to Buehler’s. We planted 36 cabbage plants out. Papa got his watch repaired $2.50 Bersche’s.

Leona brought Henry up with the car then went back home again. He was here for lunch, dinner, then he took the tractor home & pap the team, Rosalia went out with the Whippet to get him. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon & put there stove in, cleaned it all out. The transfer is in the paper, selling land to Oswald Neff. The Braun Children bought their farm back again for $4,000.00, that is Henry Brauns farm. Joe Wacthel had his house refrishents [sic -refreshens?] with a new coat of paint, the last few days. The Hoffman Garage was leased by Nobbe Co. into which Nobbe will move Oct. 1. The carpenters are busy this week, tearing down the old frame porch of the parsonage at Waterloo, to which a new one will be erected, & also a garage, which will make things look different. In Waterloo they now park there cars in the middle of the street, that is Main St.’s. Mrs. Harry Wittenauer is at present in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, undergoing treatment.
