Uncle Fred’s butchered 2 hogs here today – 206 & 214 lbs. Henry & family & Leo & family all helped, raining nearly all morning. Emil came over awhile. A. [Aunt] Mary gave him some liver. Marita has a little cold. Eggs sure down 15 [cents].

Friday, Dec. 30, 1938

Nice day, cold it was 13 this morn. Leo & family came, we went along with them to Henry’s, played cards, checkers etc. had cookies. Mr. Ed Meng had another stroke & passed out at 4:05 this eve. Meng Undertaker of Freeburg got him this eve. he had 6 strokes & 5 yrs. since he had the stroke he couldn’t talk plain.

Monday, Dec. 26, 1938

Raining nearly all day. Bill [Klein] came & took us along to Leo’s. Henry’s family also went for dinner & supper; played cards, checkers etc. Pap went along home with Henry’s & Bert [Bertille] went along with Bill to there place, for him to do his work, then came home again.

Sunday, Dec. 25, 1938

Christmas. Went to 6 o clock mass, stayed for 2nd mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Henry & family & Leo & family & Bill were here for Turkey dinner & supper, took pictures in afternoon, beautiful warm day. Went out to Henrys this evening, seen what Santa Claus brought, tree etc. so many things.

Monday, Dec. 19, 1938

We butchered 1 hog & Uncle Fred 1 – 186 lbs. @ $7.50. Leo & family & Henry & family. Billy. helped. Emil came over awhile; Josie Keller came out, took lot of sausage meat etc & egg along back; had supper here; took stuff along for other families.

Monday, Dec. 5, 1938

Leo’s birthday 29 yrs. old. Went there butchering today, also Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary helped; came home did the feeding. Mr. Watson was here on business about Lunter [? – unclear]. Henry & family came, we went along with them to Orlet’s to birthday; for supper; played cards. Bill [Klein] came there to.

Thursday, December 1, 1938

Pap hauled load wood; Uncle Fred couldn’t get his car started, we went out, started right away, she [Aunt Mary] came back with us, to go to Ladies Meeting in school hall, sewing quilt patches for a quilt to present to Fr. Aydt for Christmas; she came for supper. Uncle Fred came up in eve, also Leo & family & Henry & family they had been at Leo’s; they weren’t at home; we played cards etc. Bert [Bertille] washed, the car this afternoon; nice day, warm for Dec.

Sunday, Nov. 13, 1938

Went to mass. Henry & family were up for dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon & also Josie Keller & friends & landlords, 3 folks that live upstairs; took eggs & chickens along; she was operated on while back. Fr. Flanagans Boys Town picture is now being on at Lincoln.

Saturday, Nov. 5, 1938

Isn’t so cold after the rain. Bert [Bertille] 24 yr. birthday. Wittenauers brought load corn shocked here today. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Henry’s family, Leo & family were here this eve. played cards, had popcorn, lemonade, wine & cake, apples etc.

Thursday, Oct. 13, 1938

Beautiful rain last nite, settled dust for awhile. Rob. Payne democratic candidate for clerk was here this eve. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped, went to Red Bud. Harry Wittenauer’s finished sewing wheat here today. Henry & family were up, he got some more wheat to sew; Listened to Major Bowes on radio.
