Went threshing at Leo’s, for lunch, dinner lunch & got 724 bus. from 36 acres; sure good. Leona & boys Mrs. Orlet & Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were all helping there. sure warm. Mr. Orlet had Frank Klein to haul two loads wheat for him, got $1.19 at Freeburg, brought coal along for Leo. Hy. brought sack pig feed down. Schilling threshing at Reheis.

Worked gardens, Henry & family were here for dinner. took calf to Belleville got 8¢. Pap & boys put roofing on brooder house. Went out to Henry’s got load oats & corn that was still out there yet. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary got card, inviting us to come to Luella Ronenberg’s wedding dance at Paderborn Sat. nite; also has a fish fry & dance Sun. nite.

Cloudy & had a few showers this afternoon, had beef soup dinner, picked first peas, carrots, cabbage in soup. Henry & Rob. came got hay rake & mule. We worked gardens, ironed & patched etc. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up cut lawn, tonite stopped awhile went to Buelhlers, to get eggs. Anna Degenhardts wedding picture is in Belleville paper, Geo. Degenhardt’s daughter; the oldest boy got married awhile back. Broad Hollow Grange has ice cream & Strawberry festival & dance tonite. Wilfred & Leo Cortner had a trial at Belleville this morn. for fighting at Floraville, with Muskoffs boy’s. Leo & Rose came this eve.

Sunday, May 30, 1937

Went to mass. Priest from St. Henry’s College had mass, high & solemn coummioun [sic – communion], graduating exercises, benediction & enroll of Scapulars; took till 9:30 when we got home. Henry & family & we all went to Leo & Rose’s this afternoon for supper. Leo’s sister was supposed to come for dinner, but they never come. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to church with her, graduation exercise, May Devotion & benediction.

Pap went to Belleville to see fellow’s mare & made trade, billy horse for mare & $20 booth; got them at noon. Henry & Rob. came made hay, had dinner & lunch ice cream. Uncle Fred & A. Mary were up, cutting lawn. A man here wanted to clean cisterns $1.50. Lauts had there clean. Eggs 16¢.

Wednesday, May 26, 1937

Cloudy. Henry & Rob. came made hay 1 load, they didn’t have no rain yesterday at all; like here, they had lunch here. Fr. Eschmann of Waterloo passed away yesterday afternoon at 1 o’clock, is at present in Parish house, will be at church, from 3 tomorrow afternoon till Fri morn funeral, he had a paralitic [sic] stroke Sun. morn; since then been sick. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came brought tomato plants along & also some for Buehler’s, took them down, & came back here again; we finished planting today, have about 180 tomatoes & 288 cabbage.  We got card from Committee of Red Bud, for all men to be present at School hall there tomorrow eve. Pap took chev. to Probst got oil changed & started fixed. Eggs .16¢; allful [sic] warm these days. Davis & man of close by Bellevile [sic] was here looked at horse.

Washed ironed. Pap went to Henry’s, then to Maeystown to look at pigs; for him. Henry & Robert were up cutting & making hay 2 loads; had dinner & laundry, ice cream. Leo & Rose brought truck back got there car, got $11.95 for pig 210 lbs; top price $12.05. We had nice shower this eve; planted some more plants & beans.

Cloudy little shower this morn. Went to Belleville to dentist, church & shopping this afternoon; seen a man about 10 or 12 ft. hight walking the streets, adv. Rex Theathre [sic], & girl dancing on a Pontiac top; adv. pontiac cars. Fr. Stern passed away yesterday afternoon, Red Bud hospital; Leo & Rose came down, brought the horse back; Henry & family also came.

Washed, ironed, worked gardens. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came had dinner & lunch with them ate over here, plowed there patch with our horse this afternoon. Lauts planted potatoes here this morn. E. Kammler worked it with Robs 2 tractors. We planted 47 tomatoe [sic] plants in truck patch this eve. Pierre upset there tractor this afternoon, but didn’t get hurt. Henry & family came we went along to Log Cabin by Red Bud to Farm Bureau picture show & meeting, kids enjoyed it; pretty large crowd. Eggs 17¢. Received a card from Florence Myerscough graduating from Red Bud High School exercises to be on May 28 & hall.

Sunday, May 16, 1937

Pentecost. Went to mass. Henry & family & Leo & Rose were here for dinner & supper; & Uncle Fred & A. Mary came this afternoon for supper, we took pictures over across the street by A. Mary’s. bridal wreath bush, that is blooming so nice. There is a concert in the Evangical [sic] church tonite, Lipperts children is in the band. Carl Armbruster of Smithton is again in Belleville hospital, had motorcycle accident Sat. nite on Waterloo road; broke his leg. Staheleber was also riding with his motorcycle but was farther ahead when it happened ran into truck or something.
