A fellow around today selling fish, we didn’t buy any. Bertille got the mail, seen in the paper that Clara Schulmeister & Hy Gentsch Jr. where married since last Feb. 22, at Kentucky, & Bernice Maus & Louis Wahlaus where married last Sat, & left for a honey moon trip to Ottowa Ill. Henry & Floyd where here awhile, they where up at Belleville, & got coal, Floyd got a pair of shoes. The Meeting Democratic that was to be held at Kirsch School last Tues was posponed [sic] account of the rain, & will be held tonite. There is also a play at Red Bud given by the Legion.

We washed, ironed. Papa is fixing us a table for flowers. Mr. Jung our egg man was here, but he only wanted to pay 22¢ so we didn’t give him our eggs, cause there that here in the store. There was a man here from Dupo wanted to sell fish @ 20 lb. we didn’t take any. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this eve, then we all went to the Democratic meeting in Kammler’s Hall. The Prairie Band of 6 piece furnished the musci [sic], Mr. A. D. Riess of Red Bud addressed the meeting, & Mr. A. A. Brands, & Harry Jackson were the speakers, lunch, of beef sandwiches, & soda. About 400 people where there, from all over. Henry was up to, he brought some potatoes here.

A man around selling a patent to clean bottles & jars & things for 10¢, we took one; people here wanted to buy eggs & chickens we, had ours sold already. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, he got his pump fixed by Eichenseer’s. Mr. Ed. Pabst was here brought 7 bus. potatoes. Ralph Ettling was here. The alarm ring went over the line stating that Dr. Isslehardt dentist was going to start in Hecker in Maniers place next Wednesday Oct. 5, office hours 9 to 5, opened on Wed. only. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up again this evening went to Mike Armstutz’s birthday. Mr. Stiehl is celebrating his birthday at Weber’s barn tonite.
Thursday, Sept. 22, 1932
Papa went to Waterloo this morn, & got the whippet repaired, brakes fixed, car greased & oil changed for $12.94. Mrs. Rennecker was here awhile this morn. A man around selling fish 20¢ lb. Mr. Fisher the butcher from Waterloo was here & looked at our cow, & hogs. Walter Gregson was here & bought stock roosters @ 10½¢ lb. 18 lb. This evening we drove out to George Boll’s & looked at his cow, then went & stopped in at Roy Staunfbiel & then to Uncle Fred’s awhile. There is Republican Meeting in Kammler’s Hall tonite, Henry went, sandwiches & soda free.

We canned 2 qts. tomatoes & ½ pickles, 1 qt. beets. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up all day; lawning & cleaning for Sunday. She helped to cut out shirts for Bobby. Rittemeyer the sales agent was around, he left us a sample brush. Mrs. Louis Millman got operated for appendix Mon, she was at church yet on Sunday. Emmet Cowell is awful sick, has pneoumia [sic]. Mr. Gus Grahlherr is pretty bad sick, has awful pains.
Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1932
We washed, ironed, patched, cooked catsup, canned tomatoes, pickles & beans. Ben Valentine a deaf & dumb mute was here selling moth tabs for a living, he has a wife & 2 children & lives in Red Bud Ill., his wife is also like him, but his children can talk & hear, he had 2 brothers & 1 sister that don’t hear & talk, we took one for 15¢. There was man here from Sparta selling home grown peaches for $2.00 bu., there were nice, but we didn’t take any. Mr. Jung was here & got 9 doz. eggs. 15¢. Henry & family came up this evening & got tomatoes, the yellow ones, for canning.
Monday, Aug. 8, 1932
We washed, ironed, patched. A man around selling brooms. Chas. Jung from Red Bud stopped in. This evening we all went to Ronenberg’s her birthday, nice, crowd, some from Evansville, cake was served. We gave her a basket of yellow tomatoes for her birthday. We went down to Uncle Fred’s first.
Wednesday, Aug. 3, 1932
Ed Scheinder was here yesterday evening to look over the ground, he wants to rent some, then he went to the dairy meeting at the new school. Ath. Russell Classen was the speaker. Today is Evansville Church pinic [sic], 3 big bands, big parade & chicken supper. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s to get a load of oats. There was a man around selling a rubber to open a tightened fruit jars. Papa got his hair cut. We planted some beans & made a patch ready for pickles, & cut in about 1 gal. kraut. This evening we all went to Zeibold’s farm & got a stack hog for $4.00. We just had got home & then company, Mr. & Mrs. Tom Crowe & Mrs. Jim Crowe & daughters Ina May & Arlow [sic – Orlou].

We cut the wings of our chickens this morn, so they stay in. Sowed turnip seed today. There was a man round selling muskmellons [sic] & watermellons [sic] & from New Athens. Henry was here this afternoon, he got whey. Hy. Armstutz got the hayrake this afternoon. Walter Pour’s have a baby boy since last Thurs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening. Henry & family came up after the mule.

Papa is harrowing. We caned [sic] 1 qt. pickles & tomatoes today & cooked 4 bottles catsup. Mr. Hoffman from Milstadt [sic – Millstadt] was here & looked at our horses. There was a man a round selling magzines [sic]. The Woman’s World, we didn’t subscribe. We washed our dining room curtains.
