Windy & cold. Mehrmann got 8 doz. eggs @ 23¢. took bu. turnips for 50¢. Schmidt brought sack egg mash, took bu. turnips along back & 2 gals. lard emptied the 4 gal. paid 12¢ lb. Bert [Bertille] varnished kitchen floor. We went to Leo & Rose [Rosalia] for supper, Leo had to get his molasses from Keim’s, 13 gals. send 2 along home with us. Feureur brought us 12 bus. potatoes Wed. evening; so we have some to sell to.

Thursday, Oct. 14, 1937

Send a card for us to get group picture of Chas. Stookey’s Early Bird gang at KVSK. We had beef soup dinner. Schmidt brought sack mash feed; took our 4 gal. crock lard @ 12¢ lb. Mehrmann got 7 doz. eggs .21¢ & ½ bu. sweet potatoes 50¢; H. Wittenauer took ½ bu. to; sewing wheat here, yesterday afternoon & today. Cleaned bedroom, varnished furniture, & going to varnish floor tomorrow. Reports is that Mr. & Mrs. Pete Watchel have a baby boy Leroy, Tues. 4 girls 1 boy, & Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Wiegand have baby girl since Sun. morning.

Saturday, Oct. 9, 1937

Henry was here, got crushing done. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came pap went along to Muskoph sale by Floraville & Milsdaldt [sic]. Rained a little last nite. Most people starting sew wheat today. Uncle Fred & A. Mary had supper here, went along with us to Pautler’s tonite, Standard Oil Co. is giving a free show “Stan” & free dance upstairs, musci [sic] by Radan Och. sure crowd the show was in the pavilion. Wienhoff & Schmidt have built a new garage & opened today, if you buy 5 gals. gas, get qt. oil free, today only.

Thursday, Sept. 30, 1937

Bert [Bertille] cleaned 2 rooms upstairs. Pap cooked beef soup dinner; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, had dinner here, finished papering & cleaned his truck patch, pap helped him this afternoon worked it up with horse; had lunch with them, stayed for eve. awhile. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came brought cream down, going to ship it over with Buehler, then going to start hauling milk again, only not getting best price. Schmidt brought sack wagone [sic] laying mash started feeding it today. Leo & Rose also down last nite.

Sunday, Sept. 12, 1937

Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile, had pumpkin pie. We went to Orlets this afternoon, went to New Hanover looked at pig self feeder at Geo. Lehr’s, pap bought one $17.00 delivered; we had supper by them. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Totsch’s paderborn free dance & fish fry. music by Jake Schoenborn, Clemence Rheinhardt & Ray Geodelle & Gerhardt, Skaer’s are out, had fallen out last nite at Floraville, on account of the trial that Schoenbrook Bill Rehling had, Skaers held up for Rehling had a big crowd there. Hecker also had baseball dance, not so hot Schmidt played; not many people there, some left & came up there.

Thursday, Sept. 9, 1937

Cooking catsup, canned tomatoes. made preserve baked cookies etc. Pap went to see Hy Henze. H. Brinkmann & wife were here looked at pigs yesterday eve. bought 4 – $7. a piece going to get them this eve. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. Berneice came got 4 doz. eggs take them along to Floraville for Mehrmann. Orvile Schmidt is working in Mertz store now; Hy. cooking sorghum. Oliver & Wilma Birkner had there tonsils taking out at Belleville.

Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1937

Pap & Bert [Bertille] went to Leo’s, he helped load hogs went along to Belleville had 3 – 4% lbs. $10.60, had dinner. Bert helped for pinic [sic]. They have Catholic Church pinic [sic] today chicken supper. We went up this eve. had nice crowd. Bert won $2.45 bluey stand. Skaers, Rheinhardt & Schoenborn furnished music. The prizes were raffled to $10.00 New Baden; 100 lbs. sugar, Louis Schoenborn, Paderborn, quilt – Belleville, Aladin [sic – Aladdin] Lamp to Mrs. Geo. Klein Paderborn, 100 lbs. flour – Schmidt Pete of Waterloo, 17 piece water set, Leister mail carrier Waterloo, 50 lbs. flour Belleville 24 lb. flour Atella [?] Rheinhardt. Bed Spread & pillow slip Belleville.

Sunday, Aug. 29, 1937

Went to Red Bud. Leo & Rose came picked peaches, canned few this afternoon, had dinner & supper. Bert [Bertille] went along home with them, then to Smithton took peaches in, then went to Floraville at Boeker’s free dance, music by Schmidts, big crowd. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary went to Columbia Home Coming. KWK radio stars did the intertaining [sic – entertaining], A. Mary put a request in for Rose birthday Sat. morn. Dream bot comes Home.

Sunday, July 25, 1937

Rained this morn. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Leo & Rose [Rosalia] had dinner & supper here. Wm. Braun came wanted to rent wheat ground. Bert [Bertille] went along with Leo home went with them to Floraville to free dance Schmidts Orch. nice crowd & good time, came home with Wagner’s. Nice cool evening.

Tuesday, June 29, 1937

Worked in garden; went up seen Fr. Aydt; masses said for Uncle Adam; Uncle Fred is working up here again this morn. Rained a little this afternoon. Edwin Reheis looked at the hay. To see if it would be dry enough by tomorrow. Went out to Uncle Adams; so many people there, in & out. Ed came this afternoon by train; Carrie is coming in about 10 days; were he works they send a big bouquet flowers; & children bought 1, has quite few mass cards. Josie Keller & Ella Miller were also out; Mr. & Mrs. Jac Schmidt.
