Confirmation in Hecker today. Bischop [sic] comes, Fr.’s Harbaugh says mass with Havey & Schumacher, sub deacons; 40 children. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, Rosalia & Berti went along up to church, Mrs. Kroll was convert. Henry & Floyd was here for dinner, Leona brought Emil up, made hay this afternoon, all had lunch. didn’t get finished, hauled 2 loads in & took 2 home, so far.

Mrs. Geo. Kuhn Jr. returned from the hospital with the little boy which was born Apr. 29; they have 2, girl & boy. she was Miss Emily Wiegand. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, we all had lunch together here. Uncle got each 1 box ice cream from Griffins, Oh! Boy was it good. We went out there this evening after the ladder & bucks. Miss Marie Harbaugh, daughter of Wm. Harbaugh of Waterloo became the bride of Mr. Herman Miller, son of Frank Miller, last Sat. May 5 in Catholic Church by Rev. Elmer Schumacher, cousin of the bride at 8 o’clock mass. The bride was attendanted [sic] by 2 sister Irene & Rose, wearing canary & blue silk next, blue hat & carried roses; while Rose wore pink silk net & pink hat, also carried roses. The groomsmen were 2 brothers, Ray & Robert Miller, attired in Oxford Gray. The bride had white satin. In the afternoon the Bridal party left for St. Louis to visit Sister Ann William, so she could see her sisters in wedding attire. The bride is a musci [sic] teacher in piano. He is employed by Quick Meal Stove Co. Mr. John Fisher the heater & plumber business of Waterloo died May 7, 59 yrs. buried Thurs. afternoon. The picture of Mr. & Mrs. James Parker is in today’ Belleville paper, he will be 85 yrs in Sept.

We washed, also curtains. Snowed all night, some west here. Papa went after the paper. A man here wanted to sell products. Hy Dann & his son were here got 3 heifers for $57.50 he comes from Wartburg; he also got 1 bull from Schumacher $30.00. Eggs 15¢.

Papa got hair cut; him & Rosalia went out to Henry’s got a load oats. Baked Oatmeal cookies & pie this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, we all went to Red Bud to Mass. Jake Mauer’s sale, large attendance, papa bought rope & things, it was late till they started the household goods, we left afterwards. Buel Rascow was sale cryer, & John Schumacher, clerk; Mrs. Mauer is going to move to the city & her 2 daughters that are not married, will live with her, Bertha & Stella; everything brought a fair prize for bring cash sale. Mrs. Lizze Peiffer, 53 yrs. of age died last Tues. evening & buried this afternoon at Millstadt Cemetery she was Lizzie Hollerbach; married Chas. Peiffer, have 1 son & 2 daughters. Mr. Elmer Rittmeyer 32 & Miss Edna Rieso 19 are being married at Smithon [sic] Church by Rev. Hoste [? – unclear] at 3 oclock, wearing white dress & veil. Mr. Al Rittmeyer & Alice Mantle are the attendants & Miss Mabel Rieso Maid of honor & Aaron Papenberg groomsmen; one wearing peach, & the other green, with slippers to match; they will live in St. Louis, where the groom is employed, a private reception is held in Daabs Club house this evening for, invited several hundred guests. Santa Claus was in Hecker, Mertz store from 3 o clocks on.

Papa, Rosalia, Bertille all went to Belleville to sell sausage again this morning, so we did pretty good today, we sold $6.30 eggs & had calls for many more, but we didn’t have any, only 18 dozs. We also came across Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred too, John Reheis’s, Louis Armstutz, Flossie Kammler, Alvera Jatho. We & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Rhein’s & Kamapp Piano Co. we bought a victrola from Rhein’s for $8.00 delivered to the house, 24 records, 2 package needles. Rosalia & Bertille are baking oatmeal cookies tonight. We met Tony Eichenseer & also Raymond Schumacher at Belleville today. Bertille was up town twice this evening to get the papers. The marriage licenses of Osborn Birkner & a girl from Belleville 16 years old were in the paper & also those who were present at the wedding supper. He is the son of Pete Birkner, he is 29 yrs. old & married a girl 16. Viola Steinheimer of Belleville. Hy. Rausch is ill at present.
