H. Wittenauer was here, going to plow out ground this afternoon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary & Berti [Bertille] went to Mrs. Wm. Gregson’s funeral this afternoon, to Dashner’s Undertaking parlor, was at church & buried at Round Prairie Cemetery; Uncle went to junk pile, & we went by Buehler’s awhile, till he got finished. Schmidt brought sack laying mash. Seen in Waterloo paper that Miss Irma Schafer & Alvin Einwich were secretly married in St. Louis Mon; going to live with groom’s parents, farmers near Columbia.

Pap fixed fence. Bert cut lawn, set 2 hens, each with 1 duck eggs so far; just got the 2 from our duck. Baked cookies cake; colder this eve. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, he pumped water out of cellar. Mr. Wilbur Osterbage & Alice Glessner of Waterloo were married at Kankakee on Easter Mon. was secret till recently, going to live with his parents on Park Street, he works with his father in contracting business; she is Mike Glessners daughter. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came back again this eve. Leo & Rose came down to; brought eggs; want to butcher tomorrow.

Jo Kellers birthday. Cloudy & raining. Mr. Ed Rickers farm census taker was here this afternoon; Mamie Eichenseer, came to have her hair curled, euchre tonite. Rose & Bertie went to the euchre of the B.V.M. Sodality of Hecker parish. Bertie had 8 points, got dresser scarf. Miss Viola Purtle of Red Bud won the pillow slip attendance prize; large crowd, tables filled. Miss Doris Breautigam, of Belleville & Traveberger where married at Carlye on Jan 30, kept secret; daughter of one [? – unclear] Clara Birkner.

It is cold. The alarm ring came over the lines that Valentine Metz died & will be buried Sat. morn, leaving the house at 9 o’clock to St. Mary’s Catholic Church & cemetery. Papa isn’t feeling well, so we can’t go in. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went in this afternoon. He was pretty old. Bertille got the mail. Hugo Radau surprized many of his friends by being married Nov. 19 to Miss Anna May Scalis, kept it secret till now, he is a muscian [sic] having a orchestra at Waterloo by Adam Brust’s where Hugo stays, his foster father, he is employed in the meat market there, where married at St. Genieve [sic] Mo. on 19 Nov. Clarence Voges son of Louis Voges is a very happy young man at present his Uncle presented him a nice new car, he now has two. Mr. Herb. Schmidt mail carrier & his family, Arthur Cowell & the Red Bud Junior Band surprized Ed Weber last Thurs. eve, on a few orchestra slections [sic] & everybody enjoyed a good time.
