Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed in Hecker over night, had dinner here. She & Rose went to Mrs. Staufenbiel’s to fit on her dress. This afternoon we all went to Ruma, were thousands of people attended the Mission Rally Father Kaiser of Belleville & Fr. Sheridian of China were the speakers. K.C. Band furnished musci [sic], Benediction was held; also a microphone speaker was had to carry the voice far; the grounds were just crowded with people, & had a wonderful day; refreshment’s were sold on grounds. John Myerscough’s youngest daughter Margaret Mary who is attending school there, took us all through the convent; met several girls in there Celia Krehrer, & Isabel Forness. Jonny Kreher’s boy & a Vogt from near Red Bud had a collision, both cars damaged pretty bad, in front of church this morning being Kreher’s fault. A man stopped took 6 doz. eggs at 22¢. Nights are awful cool.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, him & papa went along with Henry to Evansville, to Simpson’s horse sale, also took John Myerscough’s along; his youngest daughter left for the convent today, can’t come home till Christmas; it rained all afternoon & some real showers I’m telling you! Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed for supper, they didn’t go home staying in Hecker weekend. Rosalia got dress goods from Aunt Mary for birthday & made it this afternoon.

Henry & family came, papa went along with him to Walter Millers sale by Smithon [sic]; the rest stayed here, had dinner, brought one of her dresses along to remodel. Henry came home about 1 o clock. Papa came with Uncle Fred’s. Aunt Mary & Berti went over to Mrs. Staufenbiel, she took dress goods along, for her to make; Uncle went to see Armstutz’s, they had supper & watermelon here. The sale was such a crowd, like pinic [sic], had musci [sic], fellow selling medicine there. Otto Horn, was here, & Monroe Feurer to see Papa; Feurer wants to count hogs.

Henry came, finished plowing, had dinner & lunch. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she helped cut Bertille’s dress out; man here & selling, germ elim, 55¢ bottle, good for everything. Mr. Oscar Schmidt, Co Superintendent was here to see Henry about school, wether [sic] or not there is going to be school, it is undecided.

Baked bread. Uncle Fred helped put stands up for pinic [sic] she [Aunt Mary] helped Rose cut out a dress, had dinner here. Henry is planning, had lunch, dinner, lunch, supper here, had watermelons. Otto Horn was here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came back this eve.

We washed, nice cool. Ronnenberg’s moving today. Mrs. Jake Staufenbiel nee Prediger of St. Louis died Fri. night, funeral Tues. morning. We all put in a free guess to how many strokes it would take to bust an inner tube yesterday. Berti guessed 1400. Henry came & papa went along, looking at horses. Wm. Probst, Nic Schaefer, at Ames, & etc., he had lunch here. Rose finished my dress today. The directors & Henry are to meet at the Blackburn’s school tonite- see about school.

Ironed & cleaned , Rosalia finished her dress. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this morning, had dinner & supper here. Went down to Red Bud to church, Uncle Fred went by Buehler’s. A man around selling post Dispatch paper.

Raining all day. We sewed dresses. Lucille Brand is 35 yrs. Papa went uptown mailed letter to Mrs. Fritisch about corn. He went up again this afternoon.

Rose & Bert went up to mass, funeral of Mr. Berg. Koch undertaker. It wasn’t so very large, few neighbors, & relatives. Pallbearears [sic] were Willie Ganley & Reagen, Huber McDermott, Tom Havey, Abrose Doyle, Joe Kunkel. Fr. made a very nice sermon, the body was viewed in back church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon & we all went to Belleville to Mr. John Birkner’s funeral, Uncles step brother, at the home of John Breutigam’s, & the most beautiful flowers & so many, they had. Gardener had charge, & Rev. Pessel, the service, nephews pallbearers, Armstuz’s, Birkners & Hepp’s; It was pretty large. Cold & snowing this afternoon. Rosalia took Aunt Mary over to Mrs. Staufenbeils try her dress, see if he fits all right. Eggs 14¢ Mertz’s. Rose Pour & Mamie came after we were in bed, Mrs. Pour wanted hatching eggs, but we haven’t none this year, no roosters. Adam Eckert has chicken pox; has pretty much fever.
