We took 2 hogs & went to Leo’s, loaded his calf went to Belleville to Streck’s pap stayed there with baby [Marita]; he got 11 [cents] for calf 157 lb. & we got for 175 lb. $8.60 & 230 lb. $8.75 that’s yesterdays price, today markets when down again. The Young Ladies have card party in school hall tonite; open air if it isn’t to cold. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came here awhile they & Bill & Bert [Bertille] went to euchre in hall, got nothing A. [Aunt] Mary got last price package napkins. 8 points. Leo & family & pap went to Red Bud to wake at Koch’s of Mrs. Isabel Gallagher. Emil came brought a letter with Nic. Brands name on it, it came from Mrs. Ryan of Oxley Mo.; wanting information about Turstenberg family, which she is a relative; to write. The sheriff of Waterloo & Belleville was out in Hecker gathering a few boys that damaged Vera’s property Sun. nite; Clyde Mueth, Clarence Braun, Bill Braun, few others yet, did about $150.00.

We cut corn this morn. We finished digging potatoes. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, he went to the signing of wheat acreages in the school hall, for S.t Clair Co. members. Report is out that the sheriff was called out to Hecker, by Jack Reagan, on account the fight with his boy & little Dr. Eckert, Alfred nearly choked him. Stores are closed to.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here a little while this morning, they had a different priest here in Hecker, this morn. Fr. Grooten’s is sick, they say. Mr. Ralph Ettling was here this afternoon & paid of $175.00 part interest $25.50 still due. He told us they had the Sheriff out to Wuertz’s to get there dog, they had pined up in the house, sheriff got there dog for them, he went in the house & got it, at night time. The Wuertz’s boy’s jumped on Buddy & the old lady ordered them of the place, Henkel & Buddy, so they left & got the sheriff, to get them dog. Louis Armstutz was here awhile. We went out to Cleveland’s this evening played 6 hand pinochle, Mr. Cleveland & Rosalia & Bertille partners & the other 3 partners, played 4 games, wine & cake, popcorn where served. That solo set out there where at Papenberg’s last night they said.

We washed, ironed, patched, cooked a kettle of soap. Chris Buehlers was here a little while this morn, on his way down to Red Bud to get a load of hogs from butcher. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up all afternoon. The egg man got 19 doz. eggs 19¢. He brought some molasses 3 gals. for 30¢ gal. by Cakokia [ed. note: think this might be Cahokia], from last year. The way talk is out Jack Ganley must look terrible 2 black eyes & all stracthed [sic – scratched] up, by Jack Mueth & Phil Mueth at his home Sat. night, sheriff was out at the house at 2 ‘oclock. Jack wears glasses now. This evening we all went out to Henry’s. Leona birthday 22 yrs. old, cake & water where served, the guests were, Gus. Geodelle & family, Albert Cleveland & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & us.

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s & got the grass mower, & cut his alfalfa hay. We dug out 4 rows potatoes again this afternoon. Hy. Armstutz came there awhile, the way he says they had the sheriff out here from Waterloo, on account of Harry Stiffler, he wanted to see his kid & Gambachs wouldn’t let him in, so Mrs. called the Sheriff, he took Harry along to Waterloo put him under arrest. Mildred has to go in tomorrow morning. It rained this evening a good heavy shower. Bertille was in Hecker this afternoon.
