Put chains on Whip. went out butchering at Henry’s started 9 o clock; finished 2:30. everything went alright; Put cinders over the walks this morn. Heard on radio Bill Divian of Waterloo bus driver was arrested for reckless driving about 7 in St. Mary Hospital injured. So many accidents last nite & today, several people injured & some dead; roads terrible.

Raining again all day. Pap went to Probst’s paid for repairs on Whip. Eichenseer’s have a new clerk Hy. Huelsmann is working there now they say. Berti got the mail, The ex post master Leohr died & buried last week; he had been ailing for quite a long time. Mrs. Walter Jauger was to taken to St. Mary Hospital for treatment, Pete Hoffmann is back at home again, but still unable to work.

Pap went to Waterloo this afternoon.We got the check from chickens $19.74 – some brought 14-12½ & 10½¢. shipping charges $1.00 & commission $1.09. this time. We paid light bill $1.35 this mo. Omer came this evening, he was in the hospital St. Mary for 4 days.

Hauptman, killer of Lindberg’s baby was to be put in electric chair today, but now has 30 more das [sic] radio said. Pap got load wood for basement. Cloudy today, east wind. pap got stuck going to the wood pile, & Jac Ganley pulled him put, he didn’t get no wood; he gave him 25¢. Mehrmann came got the eggs – 5 doz. 21¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came got there saussage [sic] & grease. Rose & Berti went to Waterloo, got Rose shoes fixed & went to Geodells to see Leona for hour; she is pretty good but can’t walk very good yet. Authur Mechler who worked in Jung’s store, is not employed at Philips gas station north R.3 highway. Vicint Heck have a baby boy, now has 4 children. Mrs Matt Stahlmann died of a Auto accident Christmas eve, was buried this week. Mrs Rob. Mertz is recovering slowly, was operated at St. Mary Hospital, some one gave pt. blood to her. Mr Geodelle is laid up with lumbago; Ray has swollen cheeks.

Mr. Kelley is being buried this morn., from the home of his daughter Mrs. Hess; he had a stroke. Mr. Hess is also in Red Bud Hospital, was operated on appendix; is pretty bad. Mrs. Getrude Irosi of Chester is getting operated for tumor at the Red Bud hospital this morning, Frank McDermott’s daughter. Johny McDermott is employed at Ill. Security’s Hospital at Chester. Roy Schmidt is sporting a new Ford V8 truck, the paper says. A. H. Breuggmann had a little baby girl; born St. Mary Hospital Thurs. evening Jan. 10. Mr. Ed. Rickert is census taker man in Prarire [sic] Du Long & New Design Precinct. The Waterloo CCC Camps will have all different classes; Nobbe’s Garage is giving free a place to study & work, auto Mechanics, Robinette giving musci [sic] lessons, Jerome Vogt teacher of agriculture & surveyoring. A man around advertising portraits; draw & if you win certain certificate, you can have a picture painted with the cost of $10. Berti drew the right one, but we had nothing done, sent him of, only some scheme work. A lady around selling home made chairs at 50¢ a piece. Rosie & Berti went to Red Bud got sack laying mash from Zipfel. Raining this evening, nasty. Aaron Papfenberg has purchase a car. Eggs are 26¢.
