Cleaned hen house. Bert baked bread & cookies. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped, he took load wheat to Red Bud got 90¢. Hy Stahleber was here. Hy. Grosse of Waterloo bought. Jobrusch hand was in store, & Jobush is to be postmaster. Al. Schrieber is to be in Red Bud. Roy Gregson & Lucille Kaffai were married last Tues. morning, Alvin Kaffai & Lenora Ziebald attendants, it says in the messenger, also says that 800 men attended the Holy Name Conference here last Sun. afternoon. At 5 o clock this evening the temperature in 90 degrees. Rettinghouse came down & fixed the Whip. this morning couldn’t get it started.

Papa went in the woods. Berti ironed. We received a card from Elvira Haudrich. Chas. Daugherty wedding to take place at Paderborn Nov. 13; & dance at Totchisin [?] evening. Bernice Wagner came & told us to come over there for a card game this evening; so we did played four handed pinochle & loser drop out; Pap & Merhmann were partners & lucky players this evening; he held 1500 trumps & etc. Clara & Rose & George & Berti were partners. They say Clifford Stahleber & Red Mueller are married & live in Waterloo now, above Kerhn’s store.

Papa went out to help Henry shock the rest of the wheat, then it is finished. He had lunch & dinner there, came home about 2 oclock. Then we all got ready & went to Waterloo, & came by the way of Red Bud home. This evening Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Mr. Hy. Stalebher to pay int for John to them, & Steve Griffin & Elmer Kammler to see Uncle Fred, about lights. We washed, ironed, patched today & canned 2 qts. cherries that Aunt Mary brought us 1 gal. & 1 can beans.

Rosalia & Bertille had house cleaning upstairs today. Washed curtains. There was a man here this morning wanted to know if we had any wells or cisterns to clean. We sent him off. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this morning. He wanted to get some jack to raise the house a little. Aunt Mary said there was just such an awful crowd down at Wiegands, they took up collection .25¢ a piece. They took in $9.00 and some cents. Bill Herzog, Lawrence Schultz and another fellow, furnished music. Ted Eichenseer’s were cooking apple butter today. Rosalia took 5 doz. eggs to the store & got .25¢ a doz. I noticed in the paper in Hecker news that, Adam Eisenhaver and H.M. Hill were called into probate court at Belleville Sat. to testify as witnesses to the last will of Benhardt Buss. George Gambach dug a new well on his premises. There is about 5 or 6 ft. of water in it. A St. Louis baseball team arrived here Sunday & showed Hecker boys how to play ball by defeating them with a score of 7 to 2. Hurrah! for St. Louis. Charles Boll is the oldest man in Hecker. He celebrated his 82 birthday last Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Kunz are the happy parents of a baby boy born to them last Tuesday, Sept. 9. She was formerly before marriage, Miss Marie Rausch of Hecker, Ill. They now live at Smithton. Clifford Sthaleber [Stahlebher] was over a little while this evening.

Papa went down to Red Bud to get some lumber this morning. Hy. Armstutz is cutting oats today. Nick Schaefer is on the binder (?) and Hy. & Arthur are shocking. It was in today’s paper that Mr. & Mrs. Colonel Lindbergh have a little son born last Sunday at 3:15 p.m. They didn’t know what they was going to called it yet. Some said “Charles Augustus” and others said “Charles Morrow” in honor of the grandfather. It will be in tomorrows paper what they are going to call it. Papa is setting fence posts this afternoon. “Dick” Stahlebher & John Wertz were here at noon hour & John wanted to look at our little leghorn chick. He was going to talk to his papa about them once and would (let) us know later. He is working over at Meng’s today, hauling mist. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s this evening to water the horses. Henry & Emil are cutting oats. After supper we all went out to set posts. We had spring chicken for dinner today. It sure was good.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner. Rosalia & Bertille were invited to Angela Eichenseer’s, she had a birthday celebration. Those present were: Miss Lena Meng & Clifford Sthalebher, Mrs. Joe Wachtel, Miss Mamie Eichenseer, Miss Elica(?) Pour, & Rosalia & Bertille & Angela. The evening was spent in playing euchre and pinochle, refreshments were served at due time, popcorn and cake. August Meuth’s have a little girl. They named it Bertilla. We all went up to church this afternoon to confession. Tomorrow is thirteen hour devotion. We found 13 eggs.
