Bertille went up to Dentist Isslehardt, & got her tooth fixed, relieved the pain, & come back next Wed. morning. Henry Birkner & his wife came too, he got a tooth pulled. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to Belleville this afternoon, Rosalia got a coat $9.90, they stayed had a little supper, they bought a liver saussage [sic] at Braun’s, 15¢ lb. Mr. Adolph Rittmeyer was here & him & papa went out to Henry’s to look at a hog. Tonite is a telephone meeting here. H.M. Hill & Steve Rennecker where the only ones present the rest had all payed there dues, there is only 6 members.

Papa went riding with the horse this morning. He went to see Jac. Reheis, he has a cow he wanted to sell, then he went to a couple of other places. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon & we helped them house clean, scrubbed all the rooms. We all had lunch there. Eggs are 9¢ today. Steve came over a little while then him & papa & George Wagner went to telephone meeting at H. M. Hill’s, thats all that was present, we now only got 6 members, Ed Watchel & Mrs. Dueker dropped off.

We washed, ironed, patched. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, he helped papa to haul hay back too the straw shed for the colts, then Uncle Fred started working on his sewer & papa helped him all day, they put, 2 oil barrels in the ground. We all had dinner, lunch & supper, over there. Hy Armstutz helped a little too. This evening was telephone meeting at Mrs. Stauenfbiel’s, papa sent his dues along with Steve, he also bought our telephone Directory book, along, they have them all published now. The Myers Printing Co. of Belleville did it, they have, Hecker, Prairie, Red Bud, Waterloo, Columbia, Dupo, Valmeyer, Floraville in it, awful nice our no is 2 l 18. Henry & family came up this evening, he went to the Dairy meeting at the new school hall. Jonny Reheis in Hecker, our accesor [sic] was around today. Rosalia, Aunt Mary where at Hill’s got prune trees 2 for each one.
Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1932
We went up to Belleville & sold 30 doz. eggs 23¢ & 2 for 45¢ sold all. Tonight is telephone meeting at Deueker’s. We all went. The members weren’t all present. Henry & family came up, played pinochle, they came here first & we weren’t at home, so they thought maybe we was by Louis Armstutz so they drove down a piece & turned around in front of Elmer Kammler house & got stuck, papa took the Whippet down & put the chains on & pulled him out. George Wagner & Steve, Louis Armstutz, Philip Jatho helped him.

We cleaned the furnace out today. Francis Eichenseer went down with 2 trucks this morning, he has Clarence Pabst driving his old truck & he drives a new one. Bertille went over to Hill’s & paid telephone dues $1.00. He wasn’t at home. Tonight is meeting there. We got 24¢ for eggs today.

Henry & kids came up this afternoon. Henry went out to see Ignatz Neff’s cream seperator. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came too. Uncle Fred stayed here with the kids & the rest of us went to Belleville & got spring hats. Steve Rennecker was here & wanted to know if they could get setting eggs, they want 1 of each kind, so this evening she came over & got them for 15¢ a doz. Mr. Hill called a telephone meeting here this evening, he & Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker, George Wagner were the only one present. The next meeting was adjourned until July by H. M. Hill. Fr. Grootens was here a little while this evening.
Thursday, Jan. 8, 1931
Papa went to church this morning & then he went down to see Jos. Braun a little while. We washed & ironed today, baked bread. This afternoon Mamie called up & wanted to know if any of us were going to the quilting in the School Hall. We didn’t know anything of it at all so Rosalia went up to Mamie’s & then they went. There is Trustee meeting over at Elmer Kammler’s this afternoon. This morning the ground was all covered with snow, but it is so warm today, that the snow is all most gone already. This evening Papa went down to the telephone meeting at George Kammler’s & Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie’s & played pinochle. Angela & Bertille were partners & Mamie & Rosalia, we played 2 games & each won one. Greg. McCarthy went to a show with Ralph Wiegand. Odillo went over to Ed. Neff’s & the 2 Schilling’s boys too, they had a game of pinochle there. At the telephone meeting they elected the old officers again, & the next meeting will be in April at our place.

Today is Epiphany. Rosalia fried down 5 gals. bacon today. Papa took the car up town & got air & gas ready for Belleville tomorrow. Mr. Hill called up this evening & told us about telephone meeting next Thursday Evening at George Kammler’s. Bertille made some mush & put blood sausage in with it & fried it for supper. It sure was good. This evening we cooked some beef soup for tomorrow when we come back from Belleville.

It is sleeting. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here and had dinner with us. Rosalia & Aunt Mary were fixing dresses for Rosalia. Mr. Bill Fritche and Werner Kalamer were trying to start Werner’s machine by pulling it down the hard road. Papa paid Steve Reihnecker for a share on the line 18. He paid $8.00 for it. There is telephone meeting this afternoon in Hecker.
