Labor Day. Took trip this afternoon, went to Walsh & through New Athens home, stopped at Smithton church pinic [sic], wasn’t much doing. Went to Paderborn Totsch’s Dominic Roth 28 & Annie Mueth 33. wedding dance, John Mueth & Olivia Roth the attendants; big crowd & lots of presents. Fahey twins won a prize at Red Bud pinic [sic] today, being the oldest twins there; & Clara Heck nee Hess, there being born last week. 3 lb. each one at the hospital incubator; doing fine, have to be there for 5 weeks.

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile Bill [Klein] & Bert [Bertille] went to Columbia Homecoming this afternoon. The baseball players having a dance at Kammler’s Hall. musci [sic] by Schmidts, featuring “Susie Gal Hills” in person & what a crowd, she sang several songs, couldn’t hardly hear her sing. Totsch’s had free dance, but was nothing Vogel Bros. Och.

Went to mass. Went to Orlets for dinner & supper. Brand’s & Bill were all there, took pictures, played horsehoes [sic – horseshoes]. The Evangical [sic] have pinic [sic] today, went awhile this eve; quilt was won by Dorthy Miller; had no dance. Floraville band played. Totschs had dance in Paderborn. Girls played; large crowd.

Rain & a beautiful rain all morn. sure needed. Bill [Klein] came this afternoon had supper, we went to Raulair’s [unclear – could be Karban] & then went to Belleville to see Snow White & 7 Dwarfs surly good picture. Base ball have in Kammlers hall tonite; music by 4 Happy Ramblers. Totsch’s had free dance but no crowd closed up at 10. Schoenborn playing.

Beautiful day. Elvira Siebert (nee Jatho) have a baby girl. Leo & family came, we went along to Uncle Freds for dinner & supper. Mr. Haudrich was here on business. Smithton Turner pinic [sic] today, awful hot. Totsch’s has a free dance again tonite.

Went to mass, 7:30 from now on. Ettling from Floraville looked at horses. Leo & Rose came, had dinner & supper here. Gusta Dudenhoeffer & Margaret were here short while, out at Maniers dropped down see how we all were. Pete Matzenbacher had shooting match this afternoon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Paderborn Totsch’s free dance & fish fry, Rheinhardt & Schoenborn, Geodelle & Bocker musci [sic] Och. large crowd. there is free opening dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill by A. Josten of Valmeyer who now has charge, Mr. & Mrs. Maul moved back to St. Louis. KMOX Radio Stars playing at Oak Grove.

Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile, had pumpkin pie. We went to Orlets this afternoon, went to New Hanover looked at pig self feeder at Geo. Lehr’s, pap bought one $17.00 delivered; we had supper by them. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Totsch’s paderborn free dance & fish fry. music by Jake Schoenborn, Clemence Rheinhardt & Ray Geodelle & Gerhardt, Skaer’s are out, had fallen out last nite at Floraville, on account of the trial that Schoenbrook Bill Rehling had, Skaers held up for Rehling had a big crowd there. Hecker also had baseball dance, not so hot Schmidt played; not many people there, some left & came up there.

Awful hot today. So many sales, Martin May, at St. Joe. Krug & near Red Bud & Schelsmidt in Red Bud. Cathill 6 min west of Red Bud. Pap went to Krug’s sale, but it got cloudy, so he went home. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along to Red Bud to sale; & did it rain, so heavy, you couldn’t see the slab for all water; they sold while it was raining articles in house, had good sale lot people, Hy & family, Mrs. Geodelle were all down, we didn’t get nothing. had heavy rain & wind here to; picked 2 bus. peaches of ground made preserve & caned [sic] good ones. Bert went with Wagners to Paderborn to Totsch’s free dance, fish fry & turtle soup, good crowd. Skaers played music. Freeburg homecoming today.

Mrs. Staufenbiel went along to Red Bud mass. Yesterday was 25 Silver Wedding Ann. of Mr & Mrs Alb. Cleveland was announced over the radio, today is Alb. birthday. Fri nite Nic Mueths celebrated there 25 Silver Wedd. Ann. at Log Cabin by Red Bud invitation dance. We went to Uncle Freds for dinner & supper. They came up this eve. & Bert [Bertille] went along to church had benediction, tried the organ, it is not finished, were so many keys that never worked but is is wonderful now. Then we went to Paderborn to Totsch’s free dance, & what a crowd, Skaer Orch. The Wedd. anni. of Al. Clevelands went over the radio again this afternoon, german musci [sic], or polish hr; requested by Grover.
