Leo’s birthday. Went to Belleville with meat etc. eggs 30 [cents]. Mertz paying 20 [cents] here. They had supper here. Uncle Fred went to Waterloo & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed here this morn; beautiful weather these days.

Tuesday, Nov. 21, 1939

Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came & Bert [Bertille] went to Belleville with things eggs 32 [cents]; they left Marita here went home did there work & came back for supper. Bill [Klein] came this eve, played cards. Leo is going to trade his Ford for truck ford V8 from Bill soon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in going to euchre at Waterloo. Bert [Bertille] gave her 25 [cents] to play for her; also one at Broad Hollow Grange.

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1939

Leo & family came went to Belleville, sold out pretty much, 2 bacon & liver sausage was left. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were here all day. Merz fixed sprouting at there place over there, had dinner & supper here, also did Leo’s. Bert [Bertille] brought doll along for Marita. Freebug has 3 day pinic [sic], starting today, with barbecue.

Tuesday, Oct. 31, 1939

Leo & family left Marita here, Bert [Bertille] went along to Belleville selling things got 30 [cents] for eggs; brought Mr. Orlet along out with them, had dinner soup here. Favre’s moved yesterday, had farewell party last nite there for them. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up she went to church. had supper here. Halloween tonite, some are going out playing tricks again.

Tuesday, Oct. 24, 1939

Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came Bert [Bertille] went along to Belleville selling. Marita stayed here; had beef soup dinner. Eggs 28 [cents]. Bert [Bertille] varnished kitchen floor this eve. Ted Eichenseer is building double garage, he purchased a 1939 Demonstrator Chev. from Kaiser at New Athens. Hy. Bruns moved his family & household articles last Sun. to Gambach farm, were [sic] he will now start farming, there. Mrs. Fristsche has her house for rent.

Monday, Oct. 9, 1939

Bert [Bertille] washed, ironed patched, cleaned front room. Windy & cloudy today. We got chicks for hogs from Strecks got $6.95 top $7.10, Mr. Englerth 83 is being buried this morn. at Smithton church & cemetery. Bill [Klein] is pall bearer all grand children to carry him. Leo & family came brought molasses, lard, eggs, to sell.
