Rennecker & Agnes Gregson’s birthday; also 4 anniversary of Gambach Bros. death. Jos. Schilling is going to thresh this afternoon. Joe. Watchel’s machine starts to this afternoon, all getting about started, soon. The lightening struck one of Arm Geodelle’s wheat shocks yesterday, burned it all up. Marjorie Rausch is again home from the hospital. Rose & Bertille went to Waterloo took 8 bus. wheat along, got 79¢; bought 100 lbs. flour; soft wheat $3.05. stopped in at Henry’s, he is threshing by Reheis. They were at Uncle Pete’s last Sun. afternoon, Annie has a permanent wave, got it at Waterloo, also Jake’s wife. Henry got 50 barned Rock Chicks 3 weeks old from Monroe Hatchery, $7.00 a hundred. George Wagner came over awhile. We took our onions out today. Uncle Fred brought the mule home, then we took him home, stayed awhile, Ronnenberg came down there to telephone to Evansville, to tell Kissen’s that there boy is pretty sick, up here, he has it in his back, can’t hardly breathe sometimes.

Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1932

Rosalia is on the sick list, cold. We washed, fried in liver sausage, cured meat. Hy. Armstutz was here wanted to get eggs for Fritz, but we sold ours yesterday, the egg man also took 5¾ lb. ribs at 12½¢ lb. along. eggs are 32¢. Eichenseer pay 28 today Hy. said. Braun’s 32¢. Bertille went up town. There is quite a few people sick, Jerome Cortner, Robert Lippert, Irvin Buehler, Nita Stauenfbiel, Walter Wittenauers. They rang over line that is Mr. Hill called in to Belleville Democrat, that Mr. Conrad Saul on Uncle Pete’s place, he died Sat. night. Wm. Kraemer was buried yesterday morning, the funeral went through, the Hecker church was tolling the bells too. they stopped at the corner here first & then went on; about 5 cars, from Mo.

Sunday, February 2, 1930

Today the groundhog saw his shadow that means six more weeks bad weather.  Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred were here this morning.  Henry came up with Levi Ganley to church and took our Whippet home.  After dinner Henry’s family came up because there was Benediction and throat blessing.  We all got our throats blessed.  We found 5 eggs.  John Kammler’s and Mehremans were also there.  Mrs. Laut is on the sick list at present.  Adam Eckert’s baby Irvin is also sick with bronchitis and pneumonia.  Tonight there is a play at Smithton.  Players from the St. Mary’s Parish at Belleville (to preform).  Today Bill Grohman had their little baby girl baptized.  Mr. and Mrs. Adam Matzenbacher were sponsons.  They named it Orlin Ida.  Henry had company last night.  Uncle Pete and Jake’s kid and Betty Jane and rest of family were there.
