Leo & family came, he helped pap haul hay in barn; we put in quilt & started quilting; had dinner here. Snowing all afternoon & evening; Pap & Leo went out to Henry’s to get clover seed. Eggs went down 1 [cent] again 15 [cents] again. The boys [Henry’s children] got vaccinated this morning; all are alright.

Cloudy again today. We cleaned chicken house; painted chairs for Marita, had piegeon [sic] for supper. The Christmas card I send to Ed. McDermott at Washington D.C. came back unclaimed, it sure is funny it came back. Klotz’s family & Wagner’s family all got vaccinated for small pox.

Went out to Henry’s threshing wheat, got 725 bus. our share is 241 bus. Pap paid Geo. Schilling lumber sawing 2067 ft. @ 90¢ $22.40. Pap & Leo hauled the wheat home from out there. Dr. Miller came vaccinated our hogs $3.00 – for 8 pigs & sow – 25¢ pig. There is so much cohlera [sic] going around. Sam Krehrer [sic – Kreher] is sick & several more. Olive brought coop down going to ship 3 doz. springs tomorrow ; with Mertz. Mrs. Geodelle & Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary, Leo & Rose [Rosalia] all helped at Henrys threshing, 2 lunches & dinner. Birkners had to go to Franks threshing for supper.
Saturday, Sept. 17, 1932
Papa went out to Henry’s to help vaccinate his hogs, then Henry & Mr. Hughes came along & vaccinated ours too for $4.50/20 pigs. Uncle Fred helped too, they came for the pinice [sic – picnic], they had to bring the chicken cleaned & dressed & cup, then Fr. takes them all to Belleville & gets roasted. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner chicken with us, she gave 3 to the pinic [sic]. Papa & Uncle Fred went down to the molasses factory. There was a lady selling extracts & a pan for $1.00, Aunt Mary took it. Uncle Fred had lunch with us. Spirtas junk dealer was here & looked at some old stuff; he is coming again yet; didn’t buy anything. Aunt Mary bought 25¢ chicken at the pinic [sic], Uncle Fred brought it here, then we lunched this eve, the crowd wasn’t as large this time.
Monday, Nov. 9, 1931
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry, Ettling, where here digging for a pond, they had dinner & supper, worked 8½ hrs. Eggs are 28¢ today. We called for Dr. Quirin to come out & vaccainte [sic-vaccinate] our pig, the old sow, is starting to get sick now. He charged $10.95, for 10 pigs. Steve Rennecker dug up his sewer today, George Wagner & Louis Dehn helped him. Mrs. Hollerback died & will be buried tomorrow afternoon. Alfred Geodelle’s have a little baby girl. They now have 2 girls.
Thursday, Nov. 5, 1931
Today is Bertille’s birthday 17 yrs. old. Papa went out & got load of wood this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up today, he cleaned a little on the sewer in the basement. Bertille went along out with papa & picked hicorky [sic] nuts up. We went over to look at Rennecker’s cistern, Pete Birkner is fixing it, brick cemeted [sic] wall. Henry brought a load of corn this evening. We all & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went out to see Uncle Adam & Emil tonight. Emil is working for Joe Schilling’s shocking corn. Schilling’s have a Chev. second hand brought from Eck, Wiehl, from Waterloo. George Parker’s are building a chicken house. Eggs are 27¢ today. Papa was out at Willie Ganley’s, he lost 2 hogs & some more ready to die, they have the colerha [sic- cholera], he got them vaccaineted [sic], some where sick then already.

Papa went up town this morn. He was talking to Adam Eckert & he says he lost about 31 hogs, every one he had, so he bought 3 from Wm. Naiser. Just everybody is losing hogs, Ben Rausch had his vaccinated & still lost one. Ed Parker lost some vaccinated, Sam Krehress are sick, the truck from Belleville are out everyday getting some in. We washed, ironed, patched today, for once it didn’t rain, we had several showers during the night. Ed Meng was here awhile. Henry & family came up & brought some potatoes along, to cook tomatoes home to make catsup with.

Papa is hauling the fresh coal in the basement for this year. He hauled 2 loads this morning. Henry was here this afternoon, he was talking about getting his hogs vacinated [sic], Alf. Geodelle, Joe Schilling have there. There are getting them vacinated [sic] all over. Papa went over by Steve Rennecker’s awhile. There was a gent here selling Oriental Rugs. It is awful hot these days. Odillo Eichenseer & 2 of his friends from St. Louis left last Friday, for Chicago, he covered a distance of 900 miles with his new car. They took a 40 miles ride on the lake on a speed boat. Papa was over at Rennecker’s this afternoon, & Steve he told him, today was his 40 yr. wedding anniversary, so tonight we all went, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry’s family, Gus, Klotz, Adam Brauns, Ed Neff, Gus Frisch, the evening was spent in musci [sic], cake, soda, wine where the refreshments served. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon, papa had to help him, he got his hogs vacinated [sic] Quirin did the work for $8.55. Albert Cleveland Grover where there, he brought theres up to & got it vacinated [sic], he has only the one. The egg man was here, we sold 3 doz. 19¢. A man selling rugs, & one taking pictures of babies where here.
