Holiday. Armistice. No mail. Geo. Wagner came over & engaged hog to kill; when it gets cold. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped, they went down to help Buehlers paper. Eggs are 27 [cents] today. Lots of people out hunting; rabbit season opened yesterday; we put up signs this morn. no hunting. It is so nice today again, so warm don’t even need a coat on.

Ralph Ettling here on business. We went to Smithton, this afternoon. Bert [Bertille] got yeast from Wagner’s took 3 bottle catsup over for Firemens pinic [sic] tomorrow, wustmarket. Wittenauers cutting alalfa [sic] here today. Emil was over got step ladder, to fix his garage door. Clyde Mueth was in Belleville jail for couple days, came out this afternoon. Beautiful eve.

Had little rain & cooler now. Bert [Bertille] cut lawn, planted out flower slips. Pap schocked corn & hauled fodder home. Harold Wagner is now operating a gas station on the Phil Braun pump gas tanks. on his premises. Report is that Hugo Probst had purse of $50. stolen from his home.

We all had dinner here today. Mrs. Ralph Prediger, nee Ethel Parker was operated for appendix Mon. of last week. Elmer Probst & Lorretta Kraft married today; wedding dance tonite at Brezzy Hill. Arthur Cowell’s boy was married Fri; dance at Log Cabin. Clara Wagner & Mrs. Joe Watchel came to see the baby [Rosalia’s baby – Marita Orlet] this morn. Mr. Geo Haudrich & Elmer came Sat. got the mare $135, for Elmer.

Beautiful day. Pap came to hospital at 10:30 AM. & Bert [Bertille] went home, washed. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. Pap stayed at the hospital all day. Jake Friedrich & wife while on there way to St. Louis to see Bernice Sun., was struck by train by Columbia he lived till 5 o’clock that day & died, & she is in hospital, she had just been home about 3 weeks, been ailing all along; he is at Wagner Funeral Parlor, will be buried tomorrow afternoon. Henry & Leona came & Leo & Bert [Bertille] went along to hospital, boys were at Clevelands, Leona stayed all nite; rest came home, Pap & Bert [Bertille] went to May Devotion.

Harry Wittenauer came to see pap. Henry came they went to meeting at Kammler’s, guys there figureing [sic] out your farms, to what crops you can put out. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, got horse & him & pap, plowed, his patch for him. We set out 26 cabbage plants in truck patch. Seen in paper transfer of John Kammler’s in town here to Marie Wagner. Dorothy Geogelion of New Athens was buried the other day, she used to work at Vera’s Tavern, was Alf. Eckerts, girl friend; was roller skating & hurt. Emil & girls are having tombstone [of Uncle Adam’s], at cemetery fixed, same stone for both, old one turned & writing put on for U. [Uncle] Adam also.

Pap went to see Chas. Helfrich. We went to Smithton this afternoon, sale, & to church. Bert took eggs up 15 [cents] . A kid Schmitling on the Gambach farm, & Oliver Birkner, had a scrap this evening, he knocked Oliver out, unconsious [sic]; for awhile. Dr. Eckert came happened between, Wagners & Watchels; quite an excitement for awhile. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up awhile this eve. Pap went to Orlets inquire.

Today it is 13 yrs. of Myursboro [sic – Murphysboro] cyclone. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came pap went along into Waterloo to Mrs. Rose Kanstein’s funeral, her husband divorced was here too. Bert [Bertille] went up to church, we didn’t go to cemetery. Fr. Aydt made nice sermon, but he had to rush it a little cause he wanted to go to Belleville St. Mary Parish, his good friend Roesch was being buried, from tornado. Fr. Joe had 2 funerals this morn. 1 at 8:45 & Roesch Solmen [sic] High mass at 10:45, he was owner of Roesch Enamel plant, which was also destroyed. The pallbearers for Rose were Hy & Emil, Ben Schilling, Levi & Willie Ganley, Simon Havey; large funeral, 1 from Frank Dudenhoefers boys was here from Okla. [Oklahoma]. Mehrmann got 12 doz. eggs. 15 [cents]. Chas Helfrich got 5 bu. potatoes this afternoon. Ralph Wiegand came last nite got his what Leo brought here for hime $1. bu. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came here & Bert [Bertille] went to lent devotion. There is Literary at School House tonite, movie by Dr. Wagner, signing N. Reheis. Bert’s [Bertille] gray suit 16. came today from New York; fits fine, looks good.

Nice day. Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in awhile after church. Leo came down to the doctor to get medicine, Rose [Rosalia] is in bed, bad cold, otherwise O.K. We went up there this afternoon; had supper there, she is up, coughs once in awhile. Lauts moved piano to Wagners.
