Leona’s birthday. 29 yrs. Pap hauled 2 loads wood. Bert [Bertille] finished cleaning upstairs. Leona was at Clevelands cooking applebutter. Virgil Eichenseer came got catalogs got a newspaper drive at Cathedral at Belleville at present. Leo & family came this eve. Bill [Klein] came & Bert [Bertille] went along home to his mother to get title for his car, they were going to go to Waterloo, so we came back home again; had watermelon, but wasn’t any good.

Hot again. Went to Henrys, took a load of wheat to Waterloo – 18 bus. got 67 [cents]. Top price is 82 [cents] today. Wheat is getting hot again, took load of ours from here off got 73 [cents] & took another load from out there 67 [cents]. Henry & family, Leo & family & Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were all here this eve – eating watermelon had 40 lb. melon; & it was sure good.

Washed, ironed; cooked catsup, juged [sic] 3 gals wine, cleaned garden. Pap dug potatoes brought up load of watermelons. sold one to Edler was here to see Uncle Fred. They were also up, he worked in garden, called Emil over yet & we all ate watermelon, pap had busted at out a 50 lb. melon boy! it certainly did taste good. Clarence Voges & Burdgorf were married today, saw wedding car pass. Leo & family came got Whip. to haul calf to Belleville tomorrow. Bill [Klein] came; we ate a large watermelon. Good.

Canned peaches etc. Bill [Klein] stopped in. Pap went to Waterloo this afternoon get corn check. $15.11 – with Henry’s & Feruer. Henry & family & Leo & family were here this eve; eating watermelons.

Bert [Bertille] washed, ironed, pretty warm again today. Pap took Whip to Probsts to get it repaired. Sausage was all sold out last nite. This afternoon the guys that destroyed the Vera’s property last Sun. nite; are called to Belleville to Justice of Peace office, 11 boys had to pay $100 for property damage. Emil came over awhile this eve. Klotz & Rheineckers went to Cleavelands eating watermelons.

Washed, ironed; got watermelons in 15 in basement. Hy. Armstutz here looking for shoats. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came brought truck home this eve. Hecker public school opened today Mrs. Pickett teacher. Bertha Karban is working at Pickett home at present.

Rose came A. [Aunt] Mary & Josie stayed last nite, out. we canned 4 doz. qts peaches, & made preserves, 3 doz. for Rose; cooked 12 bottles catsup, canned 2 qts. Uncle Fred went & got Leo, all here for supper, had spring chicken 2 celebrating Wedd. Ann. [of Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary] Henry & family came here yet, got bu. peaches. S. Rennecker got bu. to said they were to green yet & we thought to ripe. Clara Wagner came, wanted peaches to; gave them mushmelon & watermelon.

Went to mass. Peeled peaches soft ones. Leo & Rose came, went along to A. [Aunt] Marys for dinner & supper & watermelon lunch. Bert [Bertille] put peac [?] on radio on polish hr. the 39 wedding Ann. tomorrow, Chris Buehlers heard that, & came to there this afternoon. Josie was out also, brought big watermelon along. Mrs. Rennecker & Mrs. Bert Thompson came looked at peaches ordered some. Sure a beautiful day, so nice & cool all day. The Hecker Catholic church pinic [sic] cleared $980.90 last Tues. pretty good for that eve.

Made catsup, canned 3 qts. tomatoes. Went to Red Bud to Beckers Mill got check cashed, got new fan belt put in Chev. $1. went to Paul Crook looking for pigs, but were just delivered this morn. went through Tipton to Pluegers, but he moved last Sat; doesn’t live there any more, moved 10 miles away; went to Waterloo to church. Henry & boys were up this afternoon got wagon; last nite they were at Waterloo big W.L.S. Show at Pautlers Hall; I had forgotten all about it. Send bu. peaches small ones with Henry; pap picked 2 bu. little more. got in mushmellons & 1 watermellon [sic]. Hugo Probst is building new house on his lot, tore the old one away; also J. Kreher’s, Siedle is building that, contract job; but Probst just day labor. J. Reheis, Klein etc. We went over to Geo. Wagners awhile. Mary & Anita were out to. Clif Stahleber had a accident with his motorcycle at Pautlers, back wheel locked through [sic – threw] him quite a distance; hurt pretty bad.

Went to early mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed awhile, brought a watermelon along that they bought at Red Bud store; had real watermelon lunch, couldn’t eat half of it 28 lbs. it weighed. Ralph Wiegand stopped in & brought Rose Wedding present at tea kettle aluminum. Steve Rennecker came here awhile then went up to pinic [sic]. The Ladies Aid have there pinic [sic] today at Maniers Park; dance this eve. chicken supper. Uncle Fred & A. Mary, Leo & Rose came we ate watermelons then went to pinic [sic]; much larger crowd; quilt went to Ad. Rittmeyer’s girl, bed spread Hy Armstutz & pillow slip, I don’t know; It was awful cloudy, hot, thundering, but it didn’t rain very much, light shower this eve late.
