Bert [Bertille] washed, ironed. Rained a little this eve. Radio says snow. Ziebold man was here trying to sell electric things. Nobbes man Johnson was here looked at horse; some fellows from Prairie Du Rocher looked at black team. We found 95 eggs. still 15 [cents] at Eichenseers. Cold to be 30 tonite.

Pap worked garden etc. Bert [Bertille] went to mass, to see Rose [Rosalia] all morn. Pap went down after dinner. Raining this afternoon, nice showers, brought another patient in Wilda [? – unclear] Ziebold operated for appendix. this morn. sure got the hospital filled; the 4 lb. baby died Sat. eve. Leo came Bert [Bertille] went along to Red Bud, stayed all nite. Rained.

Bert [Bertille] went to mass funeral of Kroll; rather large, all girls pallbearers, Pearl Griffin, Mary Arns, Alvera Braun, 2 ladies of Waterloo, Theresa Frisch. Mrs. Francis Eichenseer is being buried at St. Louis this afternoon, that is his second wife she formerly Ziebold girl of Red Bud but had married before; she has been ailing for 3 yrs. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] helped them paper there kitchen ceiling across the street. One of our horses Barney is sick, had Doc. Miller out for him, he had supper also Uncle & Aunt Mary stayed Leona’s birthday but he didn’t get out, had company & sick horse.

Last day of the year. Pap & Berti went to Waterloo this morning, got egg mash, went to see Bershe & Ziebold’s Radios. Mr. Jerome Vogt came, counted our pigs & pap had to sign contracts. Papa went to Chris Buehler’s this afternoon, he bought 3 heifers $42 from him. An egg peddler Moll stopped looked at our cows, the one is sold, he might come back again later on, but the time the other one will have a calf. Mr. Streck came out & looked the cattle over, but didn’t buy.

Papa went out to Henry’s, help Mr. Fournie of Ziebold’s place, got the oats, he got 64 bus @ 60¢. Ivo Rapp was here & asked to for oats. Papa went to Mrs. Gambach & bought her plow for Henry $2.50; it is in Wm. Gregson’s stable. Henry came furrowed the land. We went to Belleville this afternoon. This evening went out to Henry’s, played cards. Eggs are 22¢ here, we got 17¢ chickens at Belleville.

Mr. Ziebold, retired miller was buried at Waterloo yesterday, awful large funeral, business places were all closed. Papa hauled posts, helped Henry this afternoon to cut some logs & haul. Cleveland helped too. Berti washed Chev. Seeley worked in garden. Our baby chicks didn’t come yet. Mr. Walter Lehr brought them this evening 209 chicks @ 7½. $15.50, all. The new Hospital in Chester which has been remodeled will now be called Riverview Hospital. Mr. Martin May has sold property to Charles & Anna Hasnedle – twp. 4-9-$1500.00. The primary election turned out with the winners Chas. Wehmeier. Dem. Co. Judge & Reb. Judge Scheinder; For Sup. of Schools; Zimmer had 26 votes & Wm. Weigand received 1 vote but wasn’t running; several others ran for Supt. Mr. & Mrs. Henry Gruber of Waterloo moved to the farm of Mrs. All. Gregson. Cyrus Hill & family moved to Waynesville Mo. where he has gained a position. Mrs. Steiger, Lena Birkners great grandma died this eve. about 6 o clock, will be buried Sun. afternoon 1 o clock at “Lords Corner;” she would of been 100 yrs. old in May, she was blind & couldn’t hear for a good while.

Papa & Willie Ganley are hauling logs. It rained a little went we came home last night, thundering & lightening, this morning we have northwind & cold. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, brought some beef along, & we had soup for dinner, they were here & also for lunch. Frieda Buehler & girl stop in on there way home, had dinner here to – stayed till 2 ‘ o clock. Aunt Mary & Bertille went to church this morning, mass for Louise Birkner, all the children went but Willie didn’t go. Louis Birkner went. Always one of the men folks stayed with him every evening. They finished hauling logs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went down to Dr. Pautler’s, at Red Bud. Mr. Ziebold miller of Waterloo died. George Wagner, came to borrowed automobile jack; he wants to change tires on his machine. Some real April Showers, & a pretty rainbow.

We cleaned house, washed curtains. A man was here trying to take orders for an orphanage, he was from St. Louis, we didn’t take any. This afternoon Johson [possibly Johnson] the fellow what works for Zeibold was here trying to sell skill gas stoves, & also washing machines. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon making garden, potatoes, onions, lettuce, radishes, we helped awhile. Papa went out to Henry’s all day helping to sew oats. He was there for dinner. Jung the egg man from Red Bud was here & got 18 doz. eggs @ 10½¢. standard price, the way he said, I guess he won’t stop no more, if another egg man comes in & wants to buy our eggs for that price.
